My switch has 2 leads, but there is nothing connected to the switch. Should there not be a wire that connects to the armature? The switch seems to work, but the engine backfires when I release the red safety rod

Hi Paul, Thank you for your question. There is a ground wire that usually connects to the armature-magneto. Here is a link to one of YouTube videos that may assist you with your repair, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gs4wHCoWJs. If your engine is backfiring, you are using gasoline with a high alcohol content, you are lowering the speed of the engine too fast, the carburetor is not adjusted correctly, or the engine temperature is too high.
