My DeWalt D55146 Type 2 compressor will run for about one second after I power it up then it stops. I can turn it off and right back on and it repeats the process. I replaced the pressure switch, but that did not solve the problem. Any thoughts on where to look next?

I just did a regulator rebuild on my compressor now when I turn it on it builds tank pressure all the way to 260 and shuts off when I believe it should stop at 200psi. Also when an air tool is connected like an nail gun it is fine with the first shot but then loses pressure during repeated shots and cannot drive nails. I must wait and shoot again. Any ideas what I should change or try next?
Juan For model number D55146 - December 16, 2022

Hi Juan, Thank you for your question. If your compressor does not stop at the recommended level, you will need to check the pump to see if it is running correctly. You should also check the air filter to see if it is clogged or dirty. If it is replace it. Check the air compressor for leaks. Check the valves, seals and the gaskets to see if they are worn. If they are, the compressor may leak. If the belt is worn or showing signs of damage, it will need to be replaced. Once you have determined the part you need, please feel free to call customer service. We are open 7 days a week and anyone will be happy to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you!

How do I know what type I have
Michael For model number D55146 - September 10, 2022

Hello Michael, Thank you for your inquiry. The type code will usually be listed right after the model number on the id sticker as type 2, 3, 4, etc. If there is no type number listed, then you may have an early production model that would be considered a type 1. We hope this helps and if you need help placing an order for a part, customer service is open 7 days a week. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you!
