on the part schmatic what does bolt item 1 attach to? how does item 3 attach?

Hello Anselmo, Thank you for your inquiry. The chuck screw (1 in the diagram) would normally go into the center of the chuck and attach it to the older version of the spindle, which used to have a hole in it for the chuck screw. The newer version of the spindle (3 in the diagram) no longer needs the screw and has a threaded end for the chuck. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair.

with out item 1 how does item 2 ( drill chuck) stay on? i broke item 3 but have the original drill chuck. it seems that as soon as you reverse the drill the chuck will spin off

Hello Anselmo, Thank you for your inquiry. On the re-designed spindle, the threaded section has been reinforced with more metal. Because of this change, there is no longer a threaded hole to accommodate a chuck screw. When installing this new spindle, simply thread the chuck on normally. Regular use will ensure a tight, secure fit without a screw present. Good luck with your repair.
