Lawn mower pull rope broke & the belt for the self propel was stretched out

Removed the starter rope assembly and removed the old rope but not before winding it back and putting a screwdriver into it to hold it.
Put the new rope through the ring on the mower handle.
Then attached it to the spring wound assembly and carefully removed the screwdriver as the spring will pull the new rope in.
Reattach the pull starter assembly back on the mower.
I crimped the new lead stop on the mower rope.
The next thing that I did was change the belt on the self propel pulleys.

Most here know the basics of disassembly and reverse. What is helpful was that winding new ropes proper tension required no spring work. With the pull cord unit off machine and upside-down, I almost took the center screw out BUT stopped. Remembered to pull rope until it stops, prevent sheeve from winding back up, remove old rope (only 2-3" remain btw knot and exit hole), thread new end from outer rope hole toward center, thru sheeve and knot it. Then let the sheeve spring wind it fully into itself. Done

Lawn mower sat for three years. drained fuel. replaced Inline filter, starter rope, fuel hose and carburetor. Put fresh gas in, and you would not believe it. Started first pull. I'm a believer.
