Product Description ?

This replacement keyless chuck is an authentic OEM sourced component which is specially designed for use with Dewalt drills. Its purpose is to secure a drill bit, the ratcheting action clicks the jaws tightly into place for reduced bit slippage. If your drill's bit retention is suffering, the rotation feels stiff, or the chuck has seized up entirely, a new chuck should fix the problem. This high-quality component is sold individually, please note the screw to secure it is sold separately.

Drill chuck worn out

Tool Type

Cordless Drill

Difficulty

Medium

Time

15-30 minutes

Tools Used

, T-20 Torx driver, 3/8\\

1. Opened chuck, removed T-20 Torx retaining screw by turning clockwise (reverse threaded)
2. Tried technique shown in YouTube videos that uses an Allen wrench and hammer to break loose the chuck. I attempted this for a few minutes, but it never did work.
3. Put a 3/8" hex shaft into chuck, then used an impact wrench with 3/8" socket to break loose the chuck; worked like a charm. I strongly recommend this approach if you have the hex shaft and impact wrench. It was very quick and very easy.
4. Unscrewed the chuck (counterclockwise).
5. Screwed on the new chuck and tightened.
6. Screwed in new Torx retaining screw and tightened by hand.

Chuck was worn

Roger - December 23, 2017
Tool Type

Cordless Drill

Difficulty

Easy

Time

Less than 15 minutes

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pipe wrench or large pliers

Removed the reversed thread screw from inside the chuck that holds the chuck to the drill shaft and keeps it from coming off during use. Once the screw is out, the chuck screws off of the drill shaft and you replace with new one. If by chance the inside screw will not break loose or the head is damaged, lay the drill on side of table and use pipe wrench to turn chuck counter clock wise and this will break the holding screw, once the chuck is off remove the portion of screw in drill shaft then replace with new chuck and new screw.
