It is an important part of the drive mechanism which rotates the chuck. Symptoms of a worn-out gear include lack of rotation at the spindle, loss of performance, or unusual "grinding" noises coming from the housing. If your gear-finished is worn or is damaged, this part will provide an identical replacement for the original component that was installed in the new unit.
