The tubing/filter inside the original tank came loose

    Trimmer

    Difficulty

    Time

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Socket set

This is fairly common as the gas degrades the plastic tubing over time.
Simply remove the old tank and install the new one. Take notice of which line supplies the gas to the engine (has the filter on it) and which is the return. They cannot be switched. Obviously you must empty the gas out of the tank first, just pour it back into the gas container. I know people who would just buy a new trimmer, or take it in to get it fixed, but this really is a simple and cheap fix.

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set

    1. Remove 4 screws for the fuel tank with a small Torx wrench
    2. Remove 2 rubber tubes (feed and return) coming from the tank to the carburetor.
    3. Screw the new tank in its place using the same screws.
    4. From the new tank, find which of the 2 tubes has the filter inside the tank (the CLEAR one)
    5. Attach that one to the carb input, the pipe on the carb that feeds the primer bulb (the thing you press 7 times before starting.) It's the pipe closest to the bulb.
    6. Attach the other tube (the fuel return tube) to the other pipe on the carb.
    7. Fuel it and fire it up.
