It is an identical replacement for a missing or a faulty field that was installed on a new unit. A field is usually damaged by overloading the power tool, or because of a bad armature. It is highly recommended to replace both carbon brushes when replacing a field. Keep in mind this high-quality component is made of durable metal and is sold individually. Open handle, remove brushes, pry apart copper ring on top, flip over and remove other side of housing, losses two screw and remove field assembly from bottom
