Its purpose is to o secure the Agitator Assembly ( Blade ) and the seal ring in place.
When replacing this part, inspect the seal ring to make sure it is not worn or if it has been too compressed, this could cause a leak from the jar.

Unscrewed the agitator assembly, removed the old parts and replaced with the new parts. Very easy and works like new. No tools needed.

I removed the blending jar. Then the old container bottom, agitator and ring. I place the new agitator in the new container bottom, then the new sealing ring, then screwed the container to the bottom of the blending jar. No more leaks.
