The current consensus is that we’re living in a “throw-away society”, where we throw a product away rather than attempt to fix it. We’re obviously supporters of the do-it-yourself movement that encourages you take an active approach to fixing appliances, power tools, lawn equipment, home improvement and pretty much anything else to do with your house. But most of the time these repairs and maintenance projects require multiple tools not all of us have lying around.
The Home Repair Resource Center took note of this issue, and set out to do something about it. Their motto of “empowering homeowners to maintain their homes for sustainable and diverse communities” helps illustrate what their organization is all about – helping communities maintain and improve their homes by way of financial programs, tool loans, workshops, foreclosure intervention and even a senior repair assistance program.
We believe that organizations like this are the backbone of the DIY cultures we’ve all grown to love. No matter your economic status, everybody should have access to the means to maintain their homes and everything they love inside of them.
