rnrn
  • Ball bearings are used to reduce friction between rotating parts. The balls or rollers take the load and spin, distributing the weight evenly while the minimal contact area of the ball reduces friction. This reduces wear on the tool and allows it to run smoothly.
    rn
  • Bearings experience constant wear when the tool is in operation from pressure, heat, vibration and friction. Because of this, many Bearings need periodic maintenance or replacement.

    Repair Difficulty:
    Easy
    Time Spent Repairing:
    15-30 minutes
    Tools Used:
    Screwdriver, finger strength
bearing squeal at the bottom of the sander
    1. pull off any sandpaper.
    2. undo the four screws that hold the velcro pad to the bottom of the sander and remove it.
    3. pull the plastic dust cover cap from the hub, inside the fan wheel.
    4. pull the screw and washer securing the hub to the motor shaft.
    5. Slide the hub off the shaft.
    6. push the old bearing out of the plastic hub. I did this with my fingers.
    7. push the new bearing in. I did this with my fingers.
    8. re-assemble by reversing the instructions above.

*NOTE* I hadn't realized there was a screw under the hub cap, and that it indeed came off. So I pulled the whole housing apart, which meant things fell apart and I had a tricky time getting the motor brushes to stay in the proper place while I put the case back together. This was completely unnecessary. The screw to release the hub is under the cap and can be pulled off without taking the rest apart.
