Some common signs that indicate a dirty air filter include loss of power, issues starting, and increased fuel consumption. When you are inspecting it and notice it is covered in oil, the fibrous material is torn or there are any cracks around the filter, it will need to be replaced immediately.
For this repair you will need to first, disconnect the spark plug and remove the air filter cover to access it. Once it is removed, pull it out of position and insert the new filter into the base. Reinstall the cover and reconnect the spark plug. "
