The adapter arrived on time and fit perfectly. I had to drill the shaft bolt which had twisted off and remove it with an easy-out extractor. It is worth noting that the replacement shaft bolt is 3/8" x 1 1/2" fine thread. Reassembly took about 2 minutes.

Hello Jeffrey, thank you for your question. While we are unsure if the adapter comes with a key, we do have these installation instructions that may answer the question. The testimonial says: Broken broken spindle bolt. Drilled 3/8 hole in broken bolt. And used a bolt extractor bit in a drill to reverse out the broken off bolt inside the spindle. Adaptor is held in place by a pulley belt which was easy to remove adapter simply slips off. New adapter slips on, and belt slipped into place. New hardened bolt used to secure the blade into place. To replace the adapter. Remove the blade and washers. You should be able to pull the adapter off of the spindle. If not a little persuasion will help. Then line up the key inside of the adapter with the keyway on the spindle and tap it on with a mallet. Then put the blade and washers back on.

Removed the old shaft hub, then placed the new one on. Aligned belts, attached the new blade and tighten the bolt with a torx wrench. Good to have the mower back in action. I'll have to watch for rocks more carefully as that was the cause of stripping the blade hub and shearing the bolt.

Hit a rock, blade bent and mounting screw broke, sheared the four tabs on adaptor that lock blade in place.

Remove blade, remove plastic housing to get at adaptor. Remove adaptor by loosening the drive belt tension. I was able to slip the belt off between two pulleys to gain the slack needed to remove the adaptor rather than remove a pulley. The blade screw had broken off so that i could grab the piece remaining in the end of the crankshaft, and remove it by hand. Assemble in reverse order. I put low strength loctite on machine threads so screws stay in place.
