Fuel line in tank was old and rotten
I removed the old lines from carburetor, then removed the two screws holding the gas tank. My choice.
I then removed the 530069247 and 530069216 old lines. Cut the new lines to size.
Then installed new lines and 530095646 filter on tank.
Then connected the tank, then the lines to carburetor.

Question: Weed Eater Te475y Won't Start

1355559

trimmer won't start: model TE475Y. New plug, new fuel filter, fresh fuel. Won't start. The primer bulb collapses after one depression and won't expand and fill back up for about a half hour. Fuel line that connects to primer bulb only extends about 1/2" into fuel tank. Is this normal? Or is it just an overflow line? With new plug out, I feel compression with my finger. At night, I have the plug out of the cylinder and connected to plug wire, I can see the spark easily. Nice and bright but I don't have a way of measuring. Unit is probably 6-7 years old and have never really had any mechanical problems. I'm thinking fuel delivery problems but don't want to keep replacing parts by hit or miss. Is there a regular kit that includes fuel lines and primer bulb? Thank you

Question: Spark Arrestor

where is the spark arrestor located on a Weed Eater TE475Y

Reply: Spark Arrestor

WJA

Hello 1147260,

By looking at the parts diagram I could not see a spark arrestor. I did look at the 545227901 Muffler/Shield Assembly, and I was able to see that it was assembled as a part of the muffler.

Question: Cap N Spool Jammed On Solid

nimblfingrs

I have weed eater Max, te475y. Timne came to change the string, and I find that the end cap seems jammed on. When i turn it, the whole engine turns over. Is there a lock-nut on it or something? I need to get this working, as the trim areas are looking messy.

Paul

Question: Assembly Cap And Spool

Bird

My assembly cap and spool are stuck. I can't unscrew it. Ive tried wd40 no luck. I don't have a vise grip or I would try that. How the heck can I get them off to add new line?

Question: String

Sandy

I don't see replacement string listed. I can not find it in the stores and I cannot use the weed eater without the string. Where can I get the replacement?

Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart carry string that fit. Don't use the textured string just the smooth round

Question: Idle Adjustment?

jay

Is anyone aware of an idle adjustment screw on this beast? The carb is good and clean. The trimmer will not idle unless it is on full choke, even then it's difficult to keep it running.
Roy
Reply: Idle Adjustment?

Roy

There may be an idle speed screw ( phillips head ) on top of the carb on the right side, but to adjust the idle mixture..the low speed Needle would have to be adjusted...You can find and buy the special tool on Ebay or make one yourself out of a length of aluminum tubing or ...use a 22 gauge .250" quick female disconnect spade electrical connector stuck on the end of a flat-blade screwdriver....both work.

Try a different gas to oil ratio. I have had this problem. The gas that I was using had was mixed 32/1 try a 50/1 mix.

Question: Running Sluggish

Curtis

I am having problems with my unit. It started up OK at first, but now it starts but it won't stay running. Even when it does, it runs very sluggish, it doesn't get up to full speed no matter what I do. There is a lot of oil around the back of the unit so I don't know if the carburetor may be bad, or a clogged filter?

Thanks in advance
Curtis

Question: Primer Bulb

Lee

When I pump the bulb fuel does not fill up the bulb. I took the bulb off the carb. When I pump the bulb gas comes out of the carb. Could the bulb have a air leak causing the bulb not to pump up?
Mr Bill
Question: Fuel Line

Mr Bill

The fuel line was cracked and broken. I removed it before I found the replacement fuel line. Now I can't remember how the fuel line goes back. Is there a diagram or an easy fix?
Mark
Reply: Fuel Line

Mark

Hello,

The first thing you need to figure out is which side of the carburetor is the input and which is the output. With the hoses removed from the carburetor pump the primer bulb. There will be air coming from the output side.

The line with the fuel filter on it attaches to the input side. The other line attaches to the output side of the carb and runs back to the fuel tank.

I hope this helps with your repair!

Question: Drive Shaft

jerry

My drive for the trimmer broke. How can I repair it?
Mark
Reply: Drive Shaft

Mark

Hi Jerry,

First remove the engine assembly from the trimmer shaft. with the engine removed you can slide the old drive shaft out of the housing. Use some tool grease to lubricate the new shaft. Now slide it back into the shaft housing. Make sure that the shaft engages into the drive coupling at the end of the shaft so that when you rotate the shaft the trimmer head also rotates. Now reassemble the engine to the shaft, again making sure that the shaft engages with the drive on the engine. Make sure that the engine slides back to the original position on the shaft. If the engine is not slid back to its original position the new shaft will be damaged. The drive shaft is part #545007502 and is available from http://ereplacementparts.com.

Good luck with your repair!

Question: Wont Start

Jason

Was running then died. Can't get it to restart, it sounds like its not even trying. Changed spark plug, and checked kill switch. Switch is good and plug is gapped right and new. It is getting gas.
Mark
Reply: Wont Start

Mark

Hi Jason,

I would suspect the ignition coil. Check the coil for spark. You will need a spark tester to accurately perform the test. If there is no spark then the coil is bad. The new coil is part #545081826 and is available from http://ereplacementparts.com.

I hope this helps with your repair!

Vernon
Question: Starting Problem

Vernon

Starts with full choke...Will run at idle speed only with full choke on...dies when you move to half choke or run setting.
Mark
Reply: Starting Problem

Mark

Hi Vernon,

Sounds like you have a clogged carburetor. Likely dirt has gotten into the carb or gas was left in it for more than a couple of months. The carburetor will need to be replaced. The manufacture used more than one brand of carb on this model of trimmer. You will need to look at the markings on the carb to determine which you have. It will either be a Zama or a Walbro. The Zama is part #530071822 and the Walbro is part #545081808. Both carburetors are available from http://ereplacementparts.com.

I hope this helps with your repair!

I like the TE475Y. I love the progressive line feed.
I used it 5 times it sat for 2 months and now it will not start. Got a new plug ,gas, carb kit, primer bulb , and new gas lines and now it seems to be getting way to much gas . Just go buy the better one You get what you pay for...
