My Weed Eater Head was completely worn out and needed to be replaced. The motor still worked great, so I didn\'t want to buy a new one.
I was amazed. I took the wrench and placed it around the metal nut next to the bottom of the weedeater and then turned the plastic cutting head with my other hand. It unscrewed easily. I then screwed on the new head. The entire process took about 15 seconds. I had been dreading this. I spent $ 30 and saved $ 80 to $ 150.

FL21 weedeater: was having a problem keeping the machine running. I changed the gas line leading to the gas filter in tank & the machine ran good for last 2 times I used it. This last time I have the same problem. I can't keep the machine running. It will start, but it acts like it isn't getting gas. Could the gas filter need replacement? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Lee,

I would suspect that your carburetor is plugged with dirt or varnish from old gas. Pages A and B show the carburetor rebuild kits for the various carburetors used on the FL21. Identify which carburetor you have and order the correct rebuild kit. Thoroughly clean the carburetor with carb cleaner when you install the kit. This should have you running again.

Good luck with your repair!

Hi Mike,

Sounds like signs of a clogged carburetor. Pages A and B of the parts diagram show the various carburetors that where used on the FL21. Identify which one you have and order a rebuild kit for it. Clean the carburetor with carb cleaner as you install the rebuild kit. That should solve the problem.

I hope this helps with your repair!

Question: Spark Plug

Jerome DeVaul

Due to changes in fuel, and whatever, I would like to know exactly what type of spark plug to use as a replacement. There are many types of the same plug available that I am unsure of just which one to use.

Hi Jerome,

The plug specified by Weedeater will be the best choice for your trimmer. Most of the changes to our fuels (the increased percentage of alcohol in the fuel) mainly effect storage of the engine. Alcohol absorbs water so when you leave old fuel sitting in your engine the water absorbed by the alcohol will begin to rust and corrode the metal in the carburetor. This makes it critical to use proper winterizing techniques before you store your equipment for the winter.

The correct plug is part #952030249 and is available from http://www.ereplacementparts.com.

Good luck!

The cutting head will not spin. I can hear the cable spinning inside the conduit.

Hi Greg,

I would suspect that the cable in the shaft is broken. You are hearing only part of it spinning. I would start by removing the cable and inspecting it. If the cable is broken simply replace it. If not then look closely for wear to the cable end where it meets the trimmerhead assembly. If the connection there is worn the cable will spin but won't turn the trimmerhead.

I hope this helps!

Question: Recoil Spring

Which direction does the spring go back on?

The spring should go inside the metal plate with the bent end facing left out of the groove. The plate will be facing you when installed into the housing. The bent end coming out of the plate goes into a groove about the 5:00 position facing you. The starter pulley will go into the center of the plate and should tighten in a clockwise direction. Good Luck!

I just replaced the fuel tank and lines and it still won't start, and the primer bulb stays deflated. It worked fine until the fuel line fell apart. I don't know what to do now!

Hi Denny,

It sounds like a plugged carburetor to me. Most likely some small pieces of the deteriorated fuel line made there way into the carb. Rebuilding the carb should fix things. The rebuild kit is part #530069839.

I hope this helps,

Question: Weed Eater FL21 Problems

Denny Fast

I just replaced the fuel tank and lines on a FL21, and it still won't start! The primer bulb stays deflated but it seems like it's getting fuel. Do the primer bulbs ever go bad? I've checked mine and there's no cracks, it seems fine! It all worked good until the fuel line broke apart so now I don't know what to do!

I have a similar problem. Noticed fuel line in the tank of my XT25 was broke. Replaced the line but will not start. May have lines switched that go to carb. Any idea where I can see a diagram on how this should be routed?

Hi how are you guys doing? Its been my experience on most weed eater carburetors that the diaphragm goes bad inside the carburetor after time creating a air leak and causes it not to operate correctly. Most of the time if your fuel lines are brittle and cracked the diaphragms on the inside of the carb are not in much better shape! You can purchase a carburetor rebuild kit that includes the diaphragm that you need from eReplacementParts.com : Power Tool Parts and Tool Repair. Here is a link to the breakdowns for Denny's carburetor Weed Eater FL21 Parts List and Diagram : eReplacementParts.com

I had this same problem. My lines were shot and I replaced them, but the bulb would not come back out after I tried priming the carburetor. I took the priming bulb off, and the screen under it was clogged with stuff. I scraped it, and rinsed it to clean it. The bulb started working again, and it started right up. Problem solved.

By the way, I realize this is over a year after the original post. The original posters probably have moved on. My post is for anyone looking at it after my post.
