How to Diagnose Pressure Washers
Question: Troy-bilt Pressure Washer
Have had 2550 pressure washer 4 or 5 years. used less that 25 hours total. Engine runs good but when I squeeze handle to wash ... it tries to stall the engine. Any idea what my problem is???
Reply: Troy-bilt Pressure Washer
Pump is putting excessive load on engine could be low on internal oil or internal check valves are not working. Take pump off and see if it turns with moderate resistance.
Question: Troybuilt # 020240 Pressure Wash...
Hi to all,
I added to much oil to my pressure washer
It ran for 15 minutes and shut down.
When I remove drain plug from bottom NO OIL COMES OUT even though dipstick shows full.
It starts buts makes a grinding noise after a minute and shuts down
I drained oil out thru oil filler cap and replaced with right amount of oil and still does not run right
Obvious that no oil is getting down to where drainplug is located so Im guessing their is blockage somewhere
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED AS I AM NOT WORKING AND HAVE NO MONEY FOR SHOP REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT
Question: Pressure Washer
pressure washer is spitting and sputtering when running have to use starting fluid to start all jets in carb are clean and open new plug could it be the coil or magneto
Reply: Pressure Washer
It sounds like the issue is still with the carburetor. The give away is that the engine will start and run with the starting fluid and then start running poorly. That indicates that after the starting fluid burns off, the cylinder is no longer receiving the proper fuel mixture. A more thorough cleaning of the carb may be required. If you have access to an Ultrasonic cleaner, they do wonders on carbs. If not carb cleaner can be used to clean the carb. Never insert anything metal into a carb to clean any of the small orifices. The metal will damage the small passages and the carb will no longer function properly. Fishing line can be used to clean these passages without danger of damage. After cleaning you will need to tune the carb for proper engine performance.

the pump is supposed to recirculate when the trigger is released. my engin shuts down when the trigger is released. what could be wrong,
That is most likely an issue with the unloader valve. Item A on the parts diagram, part #190594GS. The valve is likely stuck or the center screw is broken. There could also be an issue with the valves. Item E, part #193806GS. The valves are less likely to cause problems but it is possible. You will need to disassemble the pump to diagnose which part it is. We have a couple of videos you can view that might help with the problem you are having. You can find them here...
