Question: Impeller Compatibility

kbrown425

I have a Toro Blower/Vac 51591. The plastic impeller is part 100-9068. Can I use the metal part 114-9020 instead?

Yes, you can. Read what I just posted on another site that was also giving misinformation:

I had broken the 2nd plastic impeller on my Toro 51591 model and wanted to get the metal on offered on the latest blower, model 51659. Multiple comments and reviews stated that this part wouldn't work. So, I just purchased the newer model blower / vac with the metal impeller. It works fine, actually has a more variable speed control instead of just a high / low and I had no issues using it this weekend.

As I was gathering all the parts; tubes, bag, main unit etc to toss the older model in the garbage this morning, I thought - "I wonder if the metal impeller on my new one would work?" So, I quickly removed it from the new model and bolted it into the old one. It works absolutely fine.

Now I'm just going to purchase a metal impeller replacement and have both units handy - which in conduction to having two (2) large gas leaf blowers is overkill but why pitch a perfectly good item. I can find someone to give it too I am sure.

My point - it would be real nice if people wouldn't go online and write things like "the metal impeller replacement won't work on the Toro 51591 model." That is completely false.

I did buy the metal impeller from this site. Thanks to a plastic bushing that came with the part it fits my model 51591 just fine. The metal one is 154 grams vs 84 grams for the plastic one. It runs fine in the garage, but I have not yet had a chance to try it in the yard to know if the extra mass will affect performance.
