Discussion for the Skil 3396 TYPE 1 (F01233960A) 6 In. Grinder
Mark sent me a suggestion on what could be wrong with the grinder. He mentioned an electronic module, but didn't know what its purpose is. I had this module checked by an electronic shop which checked out all right. Also they wondered what purpose it served. After a little convo we came up with the idea that maybe it was to insure that the grinder would run the right way when started. Just an idea Mark.
The grinder hums but won't run when turned on.But if I take the grinder wheels off and spin the shaft by hand it will get up to speed and run. I would like to know where the starter is.
There is a chance that the electronic module (item #47) could be the problem. Unfortunately I don't really know what purpose it serves on this tool. I would be more inclined to blame the problem on the motor itself. A section of the rotor can become damaged and essentially dead. When you turn on the motor the dead section will prevent the motor from starting. By giving it a turn the motor will start and continue to run as the momentum of the rotor itself will advance the dead section of the rotor. A motor shop could test the motor and verify if this is the problem.
