Tools Used

Screwdriver, Adjustable Wrench, Allen wrench, blue loc tite, vise grip, block, metric tap

Removed side cover, removed gear box to verify the problem, which was stripped threads. I unfortunately took the gearbox apart first—not needed. Cleaned out the cutter head internal threads with a metric tap and solvent flush. Inserted new gear/shaft with blue loc tite, replaced the gear box, which requires a circlip tool, cover back on. Wait he’d see real hours for loc tite to cure. This is the second time I’ve had to replace this part; last time the shaft broke and I had to get a machine shop to remove the piece. It’s s narrow shaft and breaks or strips easily. Thus planer can’t handle high work loads
