Hello funkyd1or2,

Over time the 1860007 Feed Rollers will wear down and cause a problem with feed the stock being planned. I tried looking for a owners manual for an AP-12 Planer, but could not locate one. Try contacting the manufacture to see if they have one. There may be a way to adjust the rollers.

Question: Ryobi AP-12 Planer Springs

mrkauk

Hello, I just acquired a used Ryobi AP-12 thickness planer. I have two (2) questions: I have a manual for it, but I cannot find out how to adjust the cutting blades to be parallel with the table, and since the 4 springs holding the rollers down are no longer available, anyone have any idea as to where I could buy new ones??

Hello vbrodeur,

I checked the two 1860011 Chains we have in stock. I counted the links on both of them and there are 26. I am sure this is the correct amount of links that you should have on this chain. If either one of your chains has 26 links. Keep that one, and contact our Customer Service Department @ 866-802-6383, explain your situation, and they will take care of your problem.

Question: AP-12

Looking to commect AP-12 to dust collection system. Am I on my own to do this? Is there a dust cover with a collection hole or slot built in?
WJA
Reply: AP-12

WJA

Hello marmaduke,

As I remember the manufacture never provided a dust collector for Ryobi AP-10 or the AP-12. There are a few forums you can look at on line regarding this subject. One other thought Ridgid provides a dust collector for one of their planners it is part number 827858. Maybe you can adapt this to your planner.

Hello cappy5665,

You may also take the defective 1550018 reset switch to a local electronics suppler in your area to see if the can match it with one that they may carry.

Good luck,

We have an article and video on how to replace the belt on a Delta planer. Even though it's not the same brand. I think it will help you with replacing the belt on your Ryobi planer. Here is the link to it.

Question: Ryobi AP-12 Sprocket Problem

RBrogan

My old faithful AP-12 shot craps this afternoon. I was planing some thin stock when I heard a loud noise and it stopped feeding. Blades are turning. I couldn't move the feed rollers by hand, so I pulled the end-cover off and discovered the main drive sprocket (just outside of motor/gearbox case) in pieces. I also noticed some gouges in the base plate just below the double sprockets where the main drive chain and roller chains connect. I removed the sprocket remains but the rollers are still quite stiff to turn by hand. Is this normal? Also, should I expect gearbox damage?

Sounds like your bearing blocks on the rollers. #96 #91 #86 and #82. also check your roller shafts were the bearing ride. Make sure there nice round and smooth.

Started exploratory surgery this morning but it might end up being an autopsy. In addition to the broken sprocket; the end of the gearbox shaft was badly worn and scored indicating the sprocket key had failed some time earlier. The one roller that seemed to be dragging was gummed up but cleaned up easily and turns smoothly. More seriously though, the gearbox flange that contains mounting holes was cracked about 2/3 along its length. As I removed the motor/box assembly it broke. Not sure this is economically feasible to fix since it is about 14 years old and the only affordable blades are Deltas. Ryobi quit making them years ago and the aftermarkets are in the $60 to $70 dollar range.

I acquired an AP-12 planer with a broken drive sprocket, #59. I ordered the replacement and put it on. The chain now 'snaps' at regular intervals spaced about 1/3 rd of the chain cycle. The chain seems to be catching on the cover. I have replaced both chains to no avail. The AP-12 planer lists diagram # 59 as a sprocket and is priced at $1.94. Diagram #'s 88, 89, and 98 are listed as part # 1860008 with a cost of $4.14 each. They all look exactly the same. Besides the part number and cost, I do not see any difference. Can anyone help.
