Question: Gear Box Assembly

Bob Steffen

I have noticed that the gear box assembly on my 780 trimmer is warm following operation. Is this normal and is there a need for periodic lubrication of this part? If so is there an easy way to lube it with out dis-assembly?

Question: Carb Adjusting Screws

Alex

Which screw is the low/idle and which is the high speed? Nearest the engine or nearest the air filter. Thanks.

Question: Fuel Tank/line

david

The fuel line from the tank to the primer bulb has deteriorated. Now I have a hole in the bottom of the tank where the line went inside. What part do I need and how do I install it?

Reply: Fuel Tank/line

Alex

Go to your local small engine repair shop and buy 1 foot of rubber, not plastic, fuel line, just larger than the hole. Cut the line on a diagonal and insert it from the bottom of the tank. You will need a long pair of needle nose pliers to fish it up from the filler cap. Leave about an inch in the tank.

Question: No Spark

bill

I changed the spark plug after it quit. It ran one time then won't restart. I put a new plug in and still no spark. What do I need?

Reply: No Spark

Rex

You probably need to replace the coil.

kenroy100

where (how) do I order a new coil for a 780r trimmer??

Reply: No Spark

WJA

Hello kenroy100,

Ryobi has a module (coil) available for a number of the 780R trimmers. A few of them are no longer available however. To see if yours is still available you will need the series number of that particular unit. That number is located on the the same white tag that the bar code is on. If you can find that number match it up with your model number. Then locate the correct parts diagram to see if that module is still available.

Good luck,
-WJA

Question: Bump Head Assembly

pat

I have a ten year old straight shaft Ryobi trimmer and I need the complete bump head. It's a 780r 31cc 18" #607070665 ppn501061. It still runs great and I hate to buy a new one when all I need is the bump head. Everything I try from the stores has too small of a shaft and hex nut on the shaft. Any help?

I have the same problem almost. On the bump head there is a knob that holds the bump head link removed side that knob is a bolt.I can not find a bolt to fit that link removed some one tell me the size?

Question: Won

tom

I'm not getting spark. I replaced the spark plug, grounded the plug to the housing and pulled the cord with the switch on, but I get no spark.

Question: Trigger Only?

Michael Hughes

I have snapped off the trigger, and have taken apart the assembly, the trigger is the only broken part. How do I replace it?

Question: Primer Bulb Diagram

Kyle Shipp

I have a Ryobi 780r trimmer. The primer bulb broke. I installed a new one but after installation, the motor starts but will not stay running. I feel like I don't have the hoses connected properly and the filter inside the gas tank broke. Any suggestions or diagrams available?

Question: Fuel Feed Assembly

Ed Marten

Where does the fuel feed tube enter the primer? Long port or short port? Where does tube from primer attach to carburetor -- top or bottom? Where does return tube from carburetor enter gas tank? I have all of the parts on hand, but the manual does not show how to attach them. Can you provide a diagram?

I need the same information. My fuel line rotted, I replaced all of it but now it will start but not continue to run.

Question: Change A Starter Rope

ken

How do I get to the rope assembly to replace a broke rope? The housing's are open but I can't remove the cover on the drive shaft outside the starter housing? It looks to be secured by a torx/flat screw but I can't budge it with hand strength.

Hi Ken,

Removal of the clutch drum isn't too hard of a project at all if you know a few tricks first. We have prepared an article and video that will provide you with all of the information you will need to remove the clutch drum. You can find the article and video at the following link...

Reply: Change A Starter Rope

Ok this is my first time attempting to repair my weedeater. I got to the part of binding the cylinder, but I have no pull rope. That's my problem, trying to replace the starter rope. How do I do this? Thank you and GOD BLESS.

Question: Flexible Drive Shaft

Rick

Can I order just the drive shaft or do I have to order the whole upper drive shaft housing assembly?

Reply: Flexible Drive Shaft

Mark

Hi Rick,

The shaft is sold as part of the Upper Drive Shaft Housing Assembly. It is part #791-147486 and is available from http://www.ereplacementparts.com.

I hope this helps with your repair!

Question: Clutch

Bill

How do I remove the clutch cover from the clutch rotor, is there a screw that keep me from pulling cover off?

Reply: Clutch

Mark

Hi Bill,

There is a screw at the bottom of the hole on the clutch drum. Removal of the clutch drum isn't too hard of a project at all if you know a few tricks first. The drum is held in place by a screw at the base of the hole on the end of the clutch drum. I believe your model of trimmer will require a Torx #T-25 driver to remove the screw but it could be a hex drive or Phillips as well. The screw will remove with a counter-clockwise rotation. When you try to rotate the screw the engine will likely rotate as well. Here is where a trick comes in. Remove the spark plug from the engine. Now find a piece of small rope, like an old shoe lace. Put the rope down in the hole for the spark plug. Be sure to leave enough of the rope hanging out of the hole so you can remove it later. The rope will bind up the piston so the engine can no longer rotate and now you can easily remove the clutch drum screw.

Good luck with your repair!

Question: Ryobi 780R Weedeater

dave-fe

The carurator output (the one going to the fuel bulb) seems to be clogged. Is there a way to access the internals to determine if it can be repaired? Is there a repair manual available for the carburator?

Question: 780r Ryobi 31cc Trimmer

rosekr01

I tried to start my trimmer the other day and it took a little while to start but finally it did and come to find out the engine will rev up but the blade will not spin. What part would I be looking for to fix this problem?
