how to remove the retaining bolt (?) of the pawl, if i have to replace a broken pawl/dog on the flywheel?

Reply: Flywheel, Broken Pawl/dog Replac...

WJA

Hello Jannis,

All though we don't the flywheel, part number 791-180929 in stock. I did look at few other flywheels and the pawls are not replaceable on them. You would need to order the complete flywheel. I can't see a part number for the pawls on the parts diagram. Make sure you look at the number that starts with 41------ on the label on your machine to get to the correct parts diagram.

Question: Primer Bulb Line

towgut

The primer bulb line broke off where it goes into the fuel tank, it look like a small black plastc nipple, can you order that hose and connection or does it come in the bulb replacement kit or is part of the hose. Also, the unit keeps unwinding all the line, do I need a new trimmer head or bumb knob

Question: Fuel Line Uses?

Will this line work for the return line and the intake line from the tank and the primer to carburetor line? Or are the three of them all different sizes? I am repairing a Ryobi 775r string trimmer.

WJA

Hello thedodgeguy67,

As I remember the line are different sizes. So to make sure you get the correct ones, they are 791-683974B Primer and Hose Assembly, and 791-682039 Fuel Line Assembly.

Reply: Repair Kit

WJA

Hello tjames,

Over the years Ryobi has used a number of carburetor manufactures. But the Ruixing has been very popular with them lately. Most of the time you can inspect you carburetor and see a brand name or at least some kind of model number on it. Search those numbers and it might come up with the manufacture.

Good luck,

What is the small plastic piece that is sliced half way in the center of the fuel line for?

Often times it is used as a quick connect. Rather than replacing the complete fuel line if the unit has to be worked on, a splice connector will be used to save time in repairs. Hope this helps!
demoman
Reply: Fuel Line

demoman

It is used to make carb repairs easier. Oftentimes, fuel lines crack with age when the carb is being serviced. So, to make it easier, a plastic quick connect is used so that the carb can be disconnected and serviced without threatening the rest of the fuel lines that go to the rest of the machine. I hope this helps.

Question: Gas Tank Leaks

Bruski

I have done everything possible to stop the 2 lines coming out of the tank from leaking. Short of buying the assembly, is there any way to stop these leaks? Any help is appreciated.
UtahAV
Reply: Gas Tank Leaks

UtahAV

Hi Bruski,

The tank leaks around the lines because the lines have become hard and brittle with age. The lines form their own seal where they pass through the tank. As they age and become hard they no longer make a good seal and begin to leak. They will need to be replaced. In this case you will need to replace the tank assembly. Ryobi offers many of their tanks as assemblies with the lines already in them due to the difficulty in replacing the lines only.

I hope this helps,

Question: Fuel Line

RonnieJ

Does this line seal into the hole in the gas tank?
mine leaks and not sure what seals it with the tank
UtahAV
Reply: Fuel Line

UtahAV

Hi RonnieJ,

The line does seal against the tank. The line's OD is slightly larger than the hole in the tank. The line forms its own seal to the tank. The old line has probably become hard and brittle with age. This will cause the line to no longer seal and the tank to leak.

I hope this helps,

Hello Ronnie,
I agree with Mark. However, sometimes it can be a real pain to rethread the new lines. I have seen something else done in this regard that has worked for those who dont have the tools or know how. J-B Qwik, sold at most stores will provide a secure bond around the aperature of the tank entry point, pending the rest of the lines are not cracking too. While I dont recommend this myself, it has worked for others. Be careful!

Again UtahAV is making a simple "Yes" or "No" question into something complicated.
YES, this is the complete upper assembly. It has the upper flexible drive shaft included. Basically, a pipe with a flexible drive shaft in it.
If the upper drive shaft has broken (as in my case), you need not buy anything else (example: handle or screws).

UtahAV

Hi pjames,

Replacing the upper dive shaft is definitely a doable repair for most do-it-yourselfers. Probably the most difficult part is removing and replacing the grip. In fact I suggest also purchasing a new grip just to make the repair go a bit more easily. That way you can just cut the old grip off of the shaft.

I hope this helps!

The_Average_Joe

UtahAV is full of crap. Cutting off the handle would cost you another $35-$80 in parts. When all you need is a 5/16" socket wrench to loosen and slide the original handle off. Most of this guy's answers have been vague and expensive.
If you've got a small arsenal of wrenches and screw drivers, it's fairly easy. Basically, take it apart and put it back together again. No rocket science involved.

Question: Gas Line Extension Broke

Bob

I can't find on the diagram of the 775r where the gas line goes into the top of the carburetor, so as to order the part. It appears mine is broken if it is similar to the one on the bottom of the carburetor. Also, is the fuel line part a screw in type or will I have to buy the outer casing for the carburetor?

Question: Fuel Lines

Charlie

I need to replace all fuel and primer bulb. What is that little plastic piece in the line and which line goes to the in side of the primer bulb? Does this trimmer have a fuel filter?
Chris
Reply: Fuel Lines

Chris

Yes, it does have a fuel filter.
You may have missed it, but the fuel filter is a small white plastic assembly consisting of 2 pieces. One is the barrel and the other is a t-shaped fuel pick up with a barbed end. The t-shape holds the barrel in place and the barbed end goes into the fuel tank pick up line. (For installation, please see the question below.)
If you can't find the fuel filter/pickup assembly, check the inside of your tank. It has a tendency to hide in the crevices there and is sometimes difficult to shake out.
Routing to the primer bulb is as follows: the top nipple of the primer bulb feeds the fuel line to the top side of the carburetor. The bottom line of the primer bulb goes into the fuel tank as an air relief. The remaining fuel line goes from the tank (fuel filter and pickup assembly) to the bottom feed of the carburetor.

Hank
Question: Gas Line

Hank

When inserting the gas line into the tank from the primer bulb, it leaks after a few days. Is there some part I'm missing that should hold it in?
Chris
Reply: Gas Line

Chris

Probably. If you'll notice, there is a small white plastic "washer" that encircled the original fuel line where it entered the tank. In order to get a leak-proof fit, you must insert the fuel line into the tank, fit the fuel filter into the fuel line and then slip the white plastic washer up to the fuel tank, fitting it snugly against the bottom of the tank. The best way to do this is to insert the fuel line into the bottom of the tank and out of the filler cap, insert the fuel filter, then carefully retract the entire assembly back out of the tank bottom, keeping the fuel filter in place while it comes out of the hole in the tank bottom. Next, slip the plastic washer that you've previously threaded on to the opposite end of the fuel line up against the tank. the combination of the fuel filter barb and the compression from the washer make for a leak-proof fitting.

I had this issue too. The problem turned out to be a gasket in the area of the carb. I had taken the weedeater apart to the point that I had the carb sitting on the table. Mine also leaked gas if I stored it in a vertical position. Gas ran down the shaft. Replacing that gasket fixed both problems.
