Question: Leaking Trimmer

1176911

I just replaced the fuel lines on my ryobi 700r trimmer due to a craked line and it ran for about 2 min and then quit. It will start if I press the primmer button but will only run for about 10 seconds. Also guel drips out of the carb when it is not running. Any ideas would be very helpful.

With cracked fuel lines, debris can get into the fine mesh screen in the fuel pump side of the carburetor, causing conditions similar to yours. Remove the pump cover and clean the filter screen with carb cleaner spray. Other than that, it may be time to install a gasket and diaphragm kit for the carb. Ethanol fuel hardens all the parts in the carb; the little fuel pump especially. When it hardens, it no longer works. It is an easy repair and only takes a few minutes to install a G & D kit. Full rebuilt kits are available also. They take a bit longer to do. Please post back as I have seen this problem more than once.

Question: FUEL LINE ASSEMBLY

1158415

HOW DO YOU SEAT THE FUEL LINE ASSEMBLY PART THAT GOES INSIDE THE TANK I TRIED CONNECTING THE FUEL LINE AND PULLING THE LINE THROUGH BUT THE PART INSIDE THE TANK DID NOT COME THROUGH THE HOLE AND THE GAS LEAKED OUT

Question: Fuel Lines?

1080231

There two lines out of fuel tank - a black line and a clear line. Both will not attach to carburetor housing. What parts are these?

Wile_E_Coyote

Clear line goes to the bottom of the carb. and the black line goes to the top of the primer bulb.

Question: Gas Line OD

What is the OD of the fuel line? I measured 5/32" but everybody has either 1/8 or 3/16".

Reply: Gas Line OD

You want to use 3/16"...it will be a tight fit. I found it easier to insert by cutting an angle on the end and putting a tiny amount of vaseline on the tip and use a twisting motion....it only needs to be inside the tank about 1/2 to 3/4".
i have 2 700r units. the 15" unit' starter assembly is completely different from the 18" starter assembly.
the 15" has a plastic toothed wheel that is missing most of the teeth and cannot connect with the motor. The plastic wheel appears to be pressed into place., I have tried to pry it loose to no avail. Any ideas?

After running for about 90 minutes, the plastic blade guard ripped off from the screws. It was as if it was "old plastic". I have most of the pieces....is there any warranty on this product?

Hello wityman,

You may want to contact the place of purchase, or a link removed Authorized Service Center in your area and explain to them what happened. Hopefully they will take care of you.

Good luck,

just a thought to consider, check the cutting blade on the guard if you still have it to see if it was even on the guard and to see if it was sharp. I had the same thing happen and it was the string that played out and grabbed the guard and ripped it off. However, I went to a local junkyard for weedeaters and found one for a buck.

I installed this on my old 105r, and laid the trimmer gently down on the floor. Came back 3 days later and it had broken off. Never turned the motor on after installing. Am getting a replacement and crossing my fingers. I wonder if they've changed the plastic on these.

It is now 10/21/2010.
I'm the person ("257967") who wrote about the guard shattering before even being used. Well, I installed the replacement guard extremely carefully, taking all kinds of precautions. Today, we used it for the first time. It only lasted 30 minutes before shattering. Clearly the plastic is no good, and it is NOT the plastic that this part used to come made of. For something that costs about $20, this is awful. I don't know what we'll do for our Ryobi 105r now.

My trimmer will some times run if I leave it on partial choke. If I put in on no choke it stops and is hard to restart. Do you think the carburetor repair kit will fix problem? It acts like it runs out of gas.

Suggest dissasembling and thoroughly cleaning the carb and Air filter.
I saw a video "here' on doing exactly that on a Ryobi.

Hi Randy,

The carb adjustment screws are part of the carburetor. The carburetor is only offered as a complete assembly. The carb is part #791-182875 and is available from http://www.ereplacementparts.com.

Are the fuel and return lines the same size in diameter? If so, where can a length
for both be purchased?

Hi suzi! Yes both lines are the same diameter, however the pick up line has a fuel filter on the end of it and is a different length than the return line. You can order everything you need from eReplacementParts.com : Power Tool Parts and Tool Repair! The part numbers are 791-181086 for the return line, and 791-682039 for the fuel line!

Hope i could help!

Question: Homeowner

I have a ryobi 700r trimmer which is leaking gas from where the primer bulb line enters the fuel tank. Is there supposed to be a gasket of some type to keep this line from leaking gas?
ShotOut
Reply: Homeowner

ShotOut

No gasket, but you will need new fuel lines. They are slightly LARGER than the holes they go through, therefore sealing themselves with their own tension against the hole.

Hey loren,
sorry for the late response..make sure you have the correct mixture of gas..[new]
check to see if the muffler is plugged..[sometimes a bad oil/gas mix will plug the exhaust muffler over time] also check your plug..:)

Recoil pulley wares out to fast, and trying to get the recoil spring back in side is near impossible. who ever designed that should be shot. Now the coil/moudule assembly is bad and costs too much to replace. Just spent $19.00 for pulley now I'll have to junk it.

i purchased ryobi weed trimmer (model #700r) on sale about 6 yrs. ago. at 1st i wasn't sure of how it was going too meet my need as far as the size(31cc). well i 'm still quite pleased with the trimmer. my only compliant is rewinding the line.i buy a spool because it's more economical for me. it always seems i have too take off the spool and rewind at least once before it runs out.
