My compressor has trouble reaching the 125 PSI. level at times it stays hovering at 35psi and continues to run.could it be the pressure switch? or is the rings gone? thanks

That sounds like wear on the piston and cylinder. You will need to replace both the cylinder and the piston to repair your compressor.
