How to Test a Small Engine for Spark
If your small engine isn't starting, you'll need to diagnose many issues including the spark plug. This video walks you through the steps of how to test for a spark using a spark tester.
I have a poulan 2000 chain saw and the carburetor will not pick up gas from the tank. I have replaced the fuel filter and spark plug. I can disconnect the fuel line and suck gas from the tank. I can start the saw with starting fluid however it will not pick up gas from the tank.
I bought it cheap and eventually got it running, but it won't idle. As long as I have it wide open it will run. To get it running I soaked the plug hole and carb hole with a great product called Blaster- Lawn mower tuneup. I also replaced the spark plug and removed the GUNKED UP air filter. Any suggestions before rebuilding the carb or replacing it? THANKS.
Depending on what fuel line needs to be replaced? You will need new fuel that is the right size as the old piece. If it is the one that the fuel filter attaches you will might want to change out the fuel filter also and if it is the return hose back into the tank, there should a little fuel line fitting that goes to that line on the inside of the tank. If you have any more questions or need anymore help just let me know.
Starting at the carburetor, route the gas line through the handle, beginning with the small opening in front of the trigger, slightly below and to the right. Once this is attained, the line follows inside the handle on the right side in 3 small perches, until exiting the rear of the handle down to the gas tank. Leave about 4-5 inches inside the tank, snag the end of the line and attach your fuel filter (weighted ones are best).
Gas it and go.
I'm getting excessive bar oil on the bar and chain during pull starts and while the saw is running. I mean a lot of oil. It floods down the bar and sprays everywhere. I can't tell where it coming from. On the saw casing there looks like a indentation around the oil port. Is there a gasket that surround the oil port? Thanks
