H i There,
the parts responsible for the eletric braking of the saw is the field and the switch, the field is comprised of 4 coils,2 of the coils are run coils, while 2 are of a thinner guag wire. what the thinner set of wires do is for a split second after the switch is released, before the switch goes to an open or off position,it sends power to this coil causing the armature to want to spin in the opposite direction, wherby creating a slow down or brake. sometimes this coil at the terminal or the part around the brushes, burn off or break. you can start by investigating this, and I'm sure you'll be able to solve the problem or just order a replacement field.
