Question: Bearings

Are the bearings for a Makita Die grinder GE0600 pressed on the shafts making it difficult to replace? There are four. My grinder overheats easily and makes lots of noise. I cant "feel" any looseness in them, but something it not lined up right.

Hi Kim,

It's been a while since I changed the bearings in mine. As I recall it was not difficult, a light press fit on the shaft.

STRONG suggestion: remove the bearings and check out the numbers. Call a good bearing supplier and ask for the highest grade ABEC bearings you can get. ABEC 9 would be great. ABEC 5 is used for roller skates!!!!

If I remember correctly, mine had the same symptoms as yours, with the original bearings, with not too much use. Since I've changed them I've used it fairly hard and the bearings are standing up very well.

When pressing the bearings onto the shaft be sure you only press on the inner race of the bearings, with a piece of copper or steel tubing. If you press on the outer race there is a chance of ruining the pricey new bearings.

It appears that the brushes for this tool are different from normal. Where can I get them? Is there something special about replacing them?
