I am trying to repair a Makita 6343D cordless drill. My problem is that no matter of forward/reverse switch it will only run in reverse. My question, is this a switch problem or a motor problem? Any help is appreciated.
My guess is a switch issue. If you have the drill apart, you can test the motor. Take the two wires coming off the motor and touch them to the battery (one to pos, one to neg). It will spin in one direction. Now if you swap the wires it should spin the other direction.

it will be the switch itself assuming the acuator lever is not broken, but 99% of the time its a swt fault

I have a makita cordless drill model 6343D, 18V. The drill will only work in reverese. I have open it up and to see if there was any loose wires. The only thing I know to do is to replace the switch.
I also have one of the batteries will not charge. Can bsatteries be recondiction so they can take a charge, A local company here said they can do it.
Any tips or advice on these 2 matters anyone? I'm a newbie tot his site.
I would also blame the switch. The internal piece that changes polarity has broken and is stuck in reverse. The new switch is part #651968-9.
I have heard mixed results about battery rebuilding. It seems to be a new and popular business right now. Some say it works great, others have found said that the new batteries didn't last very long. There is an OEM replacement battery available for your drill. It is part #192827-3.
