open chuck all the way and look inside it. there is a screw securing the chuck. the screw is usually revearse thread. once the screw is out the chuck can be unscrewed. usually you can take a large allen wrench and tighten it in the chuck. hit the allen with a hammer to break it loose.

Question: Makita 6095D-Clutch Slips So I C...

Something inside the change ring is broke or sliped out of place, its stuck in the lowest setting for chuck slipage, and I can't adjust the change ring.

So I took the screw out of the chuck, put a allen wrench in the chuck, ran it in reverse and banged the allen wrench on a piece of wood to try to pop the chuck loose. I also tried hiting the allen wrench with a sharp blow from a hammer. But the chuck slips since the clutch does not work and I can't get the chuck off...Its like tring to take off a tire lug nut with the wheel off the ground, the tire turns everytime I try to loosen the lug nut. Same with the chuck, it slips so I can't pop the threads loose to get chuck off. Grrrrr,,,,,,.......

I tried prying open the houseing and manually pushing the clutch assembly shut with a screwdriver, but no luck there either....It still slipped a little, could not put enough pressure on assemble to hold the clutch cam shut.

In between a rock and hard place here. I have to take the chuck off to be able to open the houseing up and repair the clutch. But since the clutch slips I can't get the chuck off. The circle goes on and one....

After posting this I tried is several more times with the hammer, and finally it came loose. Come to find out the change ring has slip out. Works great now.

Great to hear that the chuck finally came loose! It can be frustrating when parts won't come off of the tool. Sometimes they just need a little convincing with a bigger hammer! :cool:

Screw is reverse thread. Once you take it out chuck an allen wrench to it, put it in low gear, lay the the drill & chuck on a level surface with the allen wrench at a 45 degree angle and hit the end of the allen wrench with a hammer in a counter-clockwise direction. Hope this helps.

Drill was not working so I removed 8 screws in the body and handle and well as the two screws on the adjuster ring. Was able to get drill running by cleaning and adjusting the battery contact points. [B][U][/U][/B] Adjuster ring is stuck and cannot move it to align with holes to replace the screws. Any help getting this unstuck would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Hey geo999,
Did you remove the chuck?
If not..it will have to be removed to realign your change ring correctly and reinstall the screw's...you will have to take out the reverse thread screw down inside the center of the chuck..and then with the drill in low gear and a angled allen wrench locked inside the jaws of the chuck..[the largest size that will fit]..a sharp blow with a hammer on the allen wrench should unscrew the chuck off the shaft and then you should be able to reassemble...[there is a detailed removal procedure on this website for a better description!]:)

Tried Mike's method. Was easily able to get the chuck screw out. When I tried Mike's Allen Wrench Method the chuck seems loose but still can't get it off the drill shaft. The drill shaft turn when I try to turn the chuck but I can hold the chuck in either forward or reverse and the shaft spins inside. Perplexed!! Any ideas?

Hmmnn..if the chuck turns a little off the shaft it should finish coming off..is the screw completely removed?..also make sure you are all the way in low gear..you may be in neutral?..you may also try hitting the allen wrench left handed..hee..hee. just kidding..I presume the drill is assembled as you are trying this..the more resistance you have on the shaft the easier it is to remove the chuck..remember it has to be a really sharp blow on the wrench to knock the chuck loose...:mad:
