Can someone tell me how to service a Makita model 5277NB saw?

Hi Jim,

Makita advertises the gear drive to be seal and maintenance free. Unlike traditional worm drive saws, hypoid saws use steel gears and are engineered in a way that there is not as much wear on those gears. This allows Makita to offer the saw with a sealed gearbox as the need to do maintenance is unlikely. If for some reason there is a need to replace the oil then the best way to do it is to remove the blade lock pin on the front of the gearbox and replace the oil there. Look at the parts breakdown as you remove the lock as there are several parts and a spring putting pressure on the cap. Then set the saw perfectly level and fill the gear box until the oil comes up to the bottom of the hole. Use a power tool gear oil to do this. The oil offered by Skil and used in the worm drive saws will work great. It is part #80111 and is available from ereplacementparts.com.
