Removed old laser, installed new one, adjusted alignment until beam was true (square) and in the right place.
BTW, it can be tricky to get the knob threaded back into the assembly when reassembling. Be patient and avoid cross/threading it. Also note that the clear plastic piece can be removed for cleaning by just loosening the s crew that presses on it.
