Product Description ?

This genuine OEM drive gear, also referred to as a drive sprocket, is designed for electric chainsaws. It is a plastic wheel, measuring approximately 4 inches in diameter, with a metal shaft in the center. The drive gear allows the chain to move around the bar and perform the cutting action. It is common for the drive gear to wear out from frequent use over time and need replacement. It should also be replaced if it is damaged, cracked, or no longer able to securely hold the metal shaft in the center. A faulty drive gear will result in the chain slipping or stalling, excessive noise, instability, overheating, and potential injury. To begin the repair, disconnect the chainsaw from the power source and de-tension the chain. Remove the chain, bar, and housing cover to access the drive gear. Remove the fasteners that hold the gear in place and pull it off the motor. Align the new drive gear on the mounting block and secure it with the appropriate fasteners. Finish the repair by reassembling the equipment in reverse order.

    Screwdriver, Torx bit

Removed chain and bar. cleaned out, looked for, and removed torx screws to open drive gear case. pulled out drive gear and replaced with new gear. reassembled. I did have an issue with missing a washer that had magnetized itself to the old drive gear shaft, and had to take everything apart again to install that washer(much easier to disassemble now that I knew where all the screws were...), but even then, was all back together in half an hour. Some screws are "hiding", and a couple screws are recessed so you need a nut driver handle for the torx bit instead of ratchet extension, but an easy fix.

Gear drive on this electric chainsaw is plastic. Easy to strip out if you work it hard. This is the second time I’ve had to fix it in 10 years. This Poulan saw is otherwise a good saw.
