Hi Lois,

It sounds like the carburetor needs to be rebuilt. I worked on a GT-200r trimmer with the same type of issues just the other day. There is a carburetor rebuild kit available for your trimmer. It is part #P005000950. The rebuild kit should have your trimmer running great again!

Look at page P above for part disassembly. To remove the whole assembly, lock the engine with a piston stop or rotate it down and insert a length of clean rope in the engine so it will lock up when you turn the assembly counterclockwise ( its threaded on crank end). Large water pump pliars work well for this.
