Brushes were worn
Remove brush door (2610921563) using a fine tip regular screwdriver (FTRS) work it in to the latch end of the door (to the rear) very carefully using a back & forth motion while lifting on the latch edge. This is very important that you be very careful because the under side of the door has a very breakable latch (why I ordered the brush door). Once doors are removed, using a pair of needle nose pliers (NNP) locate the end of the brush connection (a small tab) pull the tab out of its socket and if you keep pulling it should bring the old brush with it. Now place the new brush in with the brush lead to the tip of the tool (there is a groove for it to slide in), then with the NNP insert the tab end of the brush connector into the small slot (where you removed the old one from. and lastly replace the brush door you may need to use the FTRS to carefully push in on the latch to get it to slip down in to its slot. Done!

Question: Dremel Motor

Jay

I've been working my Dremel quite hard and I'm suspicious that the motor might be on its way out. When it's running at the highest rpm setting there are slight hesitations which weren't there before I was working the tool hard. Could this be something more than worn brushes? Any thoughts?

it is the replaceable motor brushes. they need to be replaced

also check the springs holding the motor brushes.
they need to be lined up properly to hold the brushes down.

Mine started doing this right before the motor ate itself for breakfast.

Question: Won

The motor runs but the chuck won't run. There must be a coupling stripped that drives the tool. Can I replace that coupling? Or do I have to send it in?

Collet lock failed almost immediately, feels like cheap parts in there. Great tool and accessories, but after I fix it I am only going to use the accessories that can be hand tightened, not burrs or bits.

Fantastic improvements over the years. I have one of the original Dremel tools dating back to the '50's. This is really a complete small shop in a small box. If you do craft or hobby or wood work of any kind I recommend buying one.
