First I would recommend getting another drive pin(#47)(or if you order the kit it appears this will come with it). Drive the old pin half way out. Then get a set of wire cutters/diagnol cutting pliers. Pry both the old pin and the new pin all the way out. There is a spring (#18) underneath the detent pin. Once you have both pins out you should be able to remove the detent pin with a small magnet or tap on the head of the impact with the pin being upside down. Start to put your pin (#47) a light tap of a hammer just enough to get it started. If you drive it in too far you will not be able to continue just pry it out a little bit. If you have purchased the kit you have a new spring that will go in the bottom of the hole. Then you put your detent pin on top of the spring flat side against the spring. Lightly press the detent pin on top of the spring and hold whlie continuing to driving in your pin (#47). Once the pin is in enough it will hold the spring and detent pin then put the anvil on something solid and finish driving your pin.
I have a dewalt dW290 electric impact. It has no torque power. The motor and 1/2 drive will turn ok on their own, but under load no guts to turn anything. Cant take off lug nuts, just no balls.
Any ideas? is it worth fixing?
Sometimes the hammer mechanism becomes un sprung or over sprung [not a real term but is the only way i can describe]:D
Disassemble and see if you can get the impactor [round] to move or rotate freely..if it 'springs' back into place that was it..if you have to replace the related parts..it would be the cam and gear $47.00 and the impactor $42.00..
The over sprung is a condition of the tool continually impacting after it has reached it maximum torque range..
hope this helps..?
