Discussion for the Delta 40-601 Type 2 18" Scroll Saw
Saw operates at max speed no mater the setting. A resistor on the circuit board (r-7) is visibly burnt however that is a indicator of another part failure that is not able to be seen can you give me an option for repair that doesn't require replacing the entire board and what else may have failed. Does this have something to do with the speed sensor or rotor or is it completely different issue?
My 40-601 type 1 Delta Scroll saw blew a 1/4 Amp fuse. I could not find a 1/4 Amp replacement so I used a 1/2 Amp. Now the saw will only run at maximum speed regardless of the position of the speed control knob. Is because of the fuse or is there another problem?
I have a 40-601 Delta Scrollsaw that the variable speed control has gone bad. When I turn it on it goes to max strokes per minute. The sensor is good just no speed adjustment. I have had no luck finding repairs, parts or anything. It is to good of a saw to scrap. Has anyone got any solutions?
I found a solution to my controller issue. I bought a controller through Grainger that fits perfect where the original one was located with a few little mods. I mounted a switch where the strokes per minuted window was. It works great just no speed indicator but now I have my saw back working well.

Read your note and wanted to know the Grainger part number you purchased to replace the Delta controller. I contacted Grainger this PM and was informed that they do not carry a 120VAC to 90VDC power supply. I appreciate your assistance.
have you checked the speed control rotor to see if has broken . or the pick up 4 it to the control unit.

Good call! When looking over saw weeks ago found part of circular piece-didn't recognize what it was. Will be ordering new one. speed sensor seems to be intact. Noticed one of 2fuse burned out on control panel-should be able to replace?
It sounds like the variable speed controller on the saw has failed. As electronics age the chance of a failure increases greatly. Unfortunately, Delta quit producing the saw and parts for it years ago. In fact they where bought out by Black & Decker in the meantime. The electronic controller is no longer available. I believe that some have retrofitted their saws with new systems, either variable speed DC or with AC motors. I don't have any specifics about either retrofit.
