Hello briabrich,

Some of the parts for the 36-220 miter saw have not been available for years. If you want to search on line, the old part number was 1346930 handle set.

Hi Terrygraham,
One thing to try is to google the part number and see if some one may still stock it. the The other is to see if there is markings on the switch that may I.D. the manufacture of the link removed didn't make the switch its an off the shelf switch that was used by Delta.Last thing to do is check with the service center and see if they can search their Factory Authorized Service centers and see if anyone might still have one on the self. Hope this helps.good luck.

Yes, once you have installed the new 1343982 insert. Turn on the saw and slowly cut through the insert. Then you should be fine to go.

I love my Delta 36-220. But the 2 brushes on the electric motor are warn down to nothing. How do I replace them??

WJA

Hello Clayton,

Unfortunately the brushes for that model number are no longer available from the manufacture. The part number for the brushes was 1344019. You might try to search that number to see if anyone has any of them, or take the brushes to a local tool repair center in your area to see if they can match them for you. Hopefully there is enough left on the brush to match.
Good luck,

I have the same spring problem today. I could not seem to replace the blade without removing the blade guard. Otherwise the saw has worked very well for 13 years in all applications. What is the trick with the spring when reassembling? Thanks in advance. Fish.

After inserting the spring prong into the plastic guard, I used a piece of fishing line around the spring prong that inserts into the plate. After placing the guard into position, I pulled the fishing line, torquing the spring until it snapped into place.

How do I change the blade?

Hi R A,

Take a scrap of wood, a piece of 2X4 works great. Unplug the saw. Place the 2X4 on the table as if you where going to cut it. Lower the blade down so it is touching the 2X4. Now, using a wrench, Remove the blade bolt clockwise. The blade will dig into the 2X4 stopping the rotation of the blade. Replace the blade and tighten the blade bolt hand tight.

I hope this helps!

Don't forget to rotate the blade guard pivot up. One screw that is recessed on the upper right. This will fully expose the bolt holding the blade in place.

homerepairnut

I have a 10" Delta miter saw that is approximately 16 years old in great condition. Recently I was cutting some treated wood and the moisture in the wood put a heavy load on the motor. I removed the 2 brushes and saw that they had considerable burn marks on them. I touched them up on my belt sander but the electric brake still does not work now. Will replacing the brushes resolve this issue? I have yet to find replacement brushes and need help finding them. Delta P/N 1344019.

Hey homerepairnut,
The brush's have to be seated in [formed] correctly to maintain the electric brake..on older machines it is difficult to re seat the brush's once they have been replaced [because of wear]..the tool repair industry use's different types and grades of seating stones to form the commutator of the armature and to seat the brush's..[sometimes this isn't possible because of poor access..]
having said that..the first thing to do is find some replacement brush's..any good repair shop should be able to match up a close enough replacement..another good source for brush's of this type [obsolete or no longer available] is link removed Electric
They also carry the seating stones..:)
If you replace the brush's and the brake still doesn't work..the other two suspect components are the switch and possibly the field..
hope this is helpful..

Mine just broke as well - nothing listed on internet - very disappointing - guess I'll try gluing it together - watch out of the plastic blade guard as I was reading and most of the threads were about that breaking and no replacement - I will not be buying DELTA in the future as customer service seems to be lacking - so much for their wasted TV ad's after the DIY shows now.

Question: Delta Switch

The on / off switch, part # 691875, for my Delta model 36-220 miter saw seems to have been discontinued. I really don't want to throw away the saw for lack of a $20.00 part.

Is there a different switch that will work? The saw runs, but the automatic brake stopped working.

If I have to buy a new saw for lack of a repair part, I can promise it won't be a Delta!

Hi Bill. Delta sure killed off a lot of perfectly good tools when they decided to discontinue the blade guards for their miter saws. There's a huge demand for them but just about every one of them are unavailable. The guard for your 36-220 is one of the unavailable ones unfortunately. I'm not aware of any way to get one (or I'd buy about a hundred of them :)).

A wonderful tool... seldom used. About 10 years ago the cheap plastic lower guard broke right at the actuator screw. I was able to cob it back together and make it work. Sunday it broke again and it does not appear to be repairable again. Now I learn the part is obsolete with no replacement.

I have the same problem and, like you, I was able to cobble it back together and use it for 5 or 6 more years but now it is broken again, beyond repair. I also have searched the internet for a replacement guard but have not found anything. Delta says not available......NO, MORE DELTA TOOLS FOR ME. They used to be good and reliable tools and replacement parts have always been readily available. Now they are junk and no parts available.

Ive read a lot about the broken lower gaurd and I have one myself. Mine is still attached, but I have to move it by hand out of the way. I was wondering if anyone has tried a Ryobi lower guard kit. I saw this on Ebay and it looks very similar to the Delta. It is 45.00 with free shipping there item number 300552630383
Might be worth a shot. I only paid 30 dollars for my saw and it is good enough for occasional home use. I dont know if that much invested for the guard would be worth it to those of you wanting commercial use of it though.

I also own a delta 36-220 Type III and the blade guard broke yesterday... I have been searching and searching for a replacement and delta does not make a replacement part. I clicked on tool info and found 4 reviews the same as my problem... Do not buy a delta miter saw... I am very disappointed with the craftsmanship of this power tool...

I see I'm not alone with the broken blade guard. However! Some of you are describing a problem I fixed with JB Weld a while back. The little nubs that are driven by the keyed 'washer' from the metal arm cracked out and I JB Welded the whole drive wheel washer to the guard. Something to consider for those that may be able to fix that. Unfortunately, I put several stress cracks in my guard when I tried to saw it and it didn't retract. Then later I tripped and stumbled and kicked my blade guard causing it to shatter in half. I believe I will conclude my searching based on all of your posts... And see if Porter Cable or someone makes chop saws! I'm very happy with my PC circular saw and it's robust quality. In the meanwhile I'll keep using it with safety glasses and a keen eye to the location of my fingers. (Please spare me from the safety comments!)

When the blade guard broke on my saw, it was right where it attaches to the slide arm. I cut a piece if 1/16th aluminum and fastened it together with that. So far, it has held through about a thousand cuts. A friend heated the break on his saw and melted another piece of plastic to it. After smoothing it out with a wood rasp, it seems to be holding at least temporarily.

Just picked up a Delta Model 36-220 10" compound miter saw off Craig's list for $40. The cabinet shop threw it out because the lower blade guard (plastic) was broken, with no replacement. This created a potential safety issue for the assembly-line employees. It is an older saw, and is in excellent condition otherwise.

Keeping my fingers away from the blade while cutting like my daddy taught me, I plan to fashion a lower blade guard from plexiglass sheet to replace the broken original.

Delta should make available replacements for the safety features 'til the cows come home. It would make good customer relations, and keep a lot of good Delta saws in service.

I have owned this saw since 1997. It is very accurate and reliable except for the lower blade guard. I should have known what I was in for when it broke during my first session using it. Delta graciously rplaced it then but now it has broken for a second time and they dont even make a replacement I can buy. If you look at how it was designed they must have wanted it to break! And now they dont support and service a poor design. Inspite of a shop full of Delta tools my next miter saw will be a DEWALT.

I own a delta miter saw model 36-220 type 111. The blade guard broke where the metal arm connects to the plastic guard with a screw. This a good quality saw but the blade guard design was poor. With the guard broken the saw is dangerous to operate. Delta doesn't offer a replacement guard for this saw, to me this is not customer oriented. Delta; if you want customer loyalty you must be customer oriented. When I replace this saw it will not be a delta unless they become more customer oriented. Loyalty is earned and delta has not earned mine.

I currently own a Delta 10" Compound Miter Saw that I purchased back in 1997.The saw has been great until the other day when I was using it and the lower PLASTIC blade guard broke. It was the part on the guard where the metal bracket attaches for pulling the guard back when the saw is pulled down. This piece is also PLASTIC and it had cracked and broke apart. After calling Delta I found out that they no longer make this blade guard and that they really don't CARE!!!!!!!So now I have a perfectly good DELTA SAW that has been rendered in-operable because of a piece of PLASTICand a company, which brags about there quality tools lasting a lifetime, but don't care enough to have replacement parts.HEY DELTA, I BET YOU THINK I WILL GO RIGHT DOWN AND BUY ANOTHER DELTA SAW?TO ANYONE THAT READS THIS, YOU MIGHT WANT TO THINK AGAIN ABOUT BUYING DELTA POWER TOOLS????

My husband is a man with many, many tools. (he told me he has 2 Delta miter saws and a Delta compound miter saw) Recently he had me check about replacing the broken lower guard, which I found was OBSOLETE. When I told him of the discovery, he was very upset for the obvious reasons. Yes, if he has to buy a replacement miter saw, I am sure he will be checking other brands. He too will not use the saw without the guard, since it is a matter of safety. I am frustrated by all the time I have put into researching this and I too have just had it with the Delta Tool Company. My next job is to ask This Old House and Norm Abram what to do in this situation, since they continually endorse the brand. How the heck can those professionals promote the buying of tools made with irreplaceable plastic parts that need to be used for safety reasons. I was glad to read here that there some others having this issue, I thought it was just us. It felt good to vent!

We live in the age of the accountant. Unless an investment has a double digit return, accountants want no part of it. In my opinion, the result of this is what has happened to us who own a DELTA 36-220 miter saw. Not only is the lower safety guard operating lever attachment a cheap design, which BTW I can't blame DELTA for discontinuing, but the fact that DELTA is not willing to invest in developing and marketing a reasonable replacement for an integral safety feature, is unforgivable. For the record, I own several DELTA tools. I'm an electrical engineer practicing for 20+ years. In engineering "delta" means "change in". This experience has caused a delta in my opinion of DELTA. Listen DELTA... all of use make mistakes, admit it and fix it! Don't abandon those of us who are/were loyal customers. Without a change in DELTA's attitude I can only hope that DELTA will experience an undesirable delta in their earnings... permanently!
