Question: 20 Yr Old 10" Delta Table S...

All of a sudden, my blade is receiving a lot of resistance. I heard it struggling to turn so I turned it off. I can feel the blade is difficult to turn. Oiled it up with very little improvement. Can anyone give me advice on how to diagnose or repair the problem or give me the name of a repairman that will do a house call in Central New Jersey?

Do you have a model number or catalog number of the saw? It should be a 34-??? number. That will help to let you know what might be wrong. I suspect it is going to be the bearings on the arbor.

Hello greatsign1,

It's most likely is your arbor bearings or in a few cases it could be the bearings in the motor. To check this, first unplug the saw from the power source. Then remove the belt from the arbor pulley and motor pulley. Rotate the arbor, if it spins easily with no resistance and noise the arbor bearings should be okay. Then do the same with the motor. If the motor bearings are bad take the motor to a local motor service shop in your area and the can replace the bearings for you. If the arbor bearings are bad they will have to be replaced.

To replace the bearings you will need to remove the arbor bracket by removing the arbor bracket shaft item #149 on the diagram from the front trunnion. Once you have the arbor bracket out. Remove the nut and the pulley from the arbor. At this point you might need a press to get the arbor out of the bracket. Once the arbor is out remove the bearing closure nut that is holding the bearing in the arbor bracket. remove the bearing from the bracket and from the arbor ( a press will be needed for this.) Make sure the arbor is not scored or pitted where the bearings sit or you will have to replace the arbor also.

Replace the bearings, reassemble and you should be good to go.

Or once you have the arbor bracket out take it to a local tool and machine service shop and they will do this for you.

Question: Delta 34-144

Have a delta 34-144 contractors 10 inch saw with delta 62-042 motor.
When switched on the blade just rocks back and forth......won't spin
I'm considering the capacitor but haven't been able to track one down..
can you point me in a direction?

Don. Sounds like a capacitor to me. I don't think delta offers one. Try an Electric Motor shop. They should only be $6.00 to $12.00 bucks. cheep easy fix. Hope This Helps. Dale

I have a Delta 34-444 contractor's table saw. How can I determine if it is a 1, 2, 3 or 4 as the parts list show. I can't find anything in the instruction manual or on the saw. Thanks.

That's a tough one. It's difficult to determine which type your model is if it is not listed on your manual or saw. My suggestion would be to compare your table saw parts to the parts diagram of each type to see which one matches best.

If you need a specific part you can cross-reference the part number of one type to the other three types. If the part number is the same then you know the part is the same in all four types of your model table saw.

If the information above does not help then you may want to call Delta to see if they can offer any assistance.

look for the Serial number of your unit. Then look at the first page of each part diagram.

For example Type 3 says

I just bought a 34-444 on craigslist. It has a vibration which seems to come from excessive play in the gear that tilts the blade, I can rattle it back and forth a millimeter or so. I also cannot find any stops for 90 and 45 degrees. Any ideas?
