Discussion for the Delta 28-160 Type 1 10" Bench Band Saw
I need to know how to remove the drive wheel on a Delta 28-160 band-saw. I have removed the nut and washer and the wheel is loose but it only moves about 1/8 to 1/4 inch and then stops. I can still wiggle it after it stops. dont want to force it as the wheels are no longer available.any help would br most welcomed.
AJ.
The only one I could find close to the Delta insert, is a Craftsman part number, 69156. I don't know what size it is or if it will even work on your saw. And for the price, you may be able to fabricate one for your saw. Since this is just a guess anyway.
So you went from a cast aliminum trunnion on the 28-160 bandsaw to plastic ones that are not compatable with the trunnion on the 28-160 bandsaw. Why can't you mold a plastic replacement for the 28-160 bandsaw?
My old Delta Model 28-160 Bandsaw has a broken lowerbearing & guide block-Pt # 34- on Delta's exploded parts list.Tried to be very careful to get a disintegrated bearing & its shaft out to replace, but it gave way in the middle. Delta/Black & Decker have no such part available.Does anyone know of any suitable replacement, or anyone happen to have an old salvageable part,or knowledge of anyone who might be an independent manufacturer who would be able to provide a replacement part ? This is an old 3 wheeler,12" throat,& uses a 561/8 blade. I'm trying this site 1st.I do know a CNC guy,but I can only guess at a price ! Any help would be appreciated-Thanks Guys
Have you tried the Old Wood Working Machines website (link removed The BYOD (Bring Out Your Dead) forum is for posting WTB (Wanted to Buy) & FS (For Sale) items. Someone may have them or know of a source for your band saw parts. "The Shop" forum is a great place to ask for help in repairing or for locating a supplier of older items like these.
Hope it helps
I found a 3-wheel Delta band saw for sale and I wonder if anyone knows why they are no longer sold in the market place? Was there safety issues or limitations that caused manufacturers to no longer make them for sale? I had seen a posting where someone asked how to keep the band (blade) from slipping off the wheel(s) every time they started it. Was this a problem with them as a whole?
Tracking issues are the main reason you don't see many of these saws anymore. The third wheel adds one more point that must be in perfect alignment with the other two wheels. It can be hard enough sometimes to keep a two wheeled saw tracking perfectly. Add one more wheel and it can be almost impossible if any of the wheels is even slightly off. The third wheel allows for a very deep throat on the saw but unfortunately the tracking issues usually overshadow any benefit gained.
I'm new to this, can't find where to ask a ? in forum. Also can't find out how to look for the correct blade for my Delta 28-160 bandsaw. Please help
Thanks
