WJA

Hello Delta Connection,

The Delta 22-563 Drive Belt is again available. But it may be a while until we get them in stock. The part number 140J6 Drive Belt is a direct replacement for the 22-563, and we have them in stock.

Hello TLWTool,

Even though the Delta 901030 Armature is no longer available from the manufacture. You still have the option of having it rewound. If you search Armature Rewind Service You should be able to get it rewound and get your planer back to working.

Question: Planer On/off Switch

1217995

Does the switch just pull right off the planer? (Is it a "plug and play" item?) My original switch has stopped working altogether... at least I think that the switch is the problem. Anyone have experience with this? I have a Delta 22-560 planer. Thanks.
WJA

Hello 1217995,

If you push down on the tabs just above the ON and just below the OFF on the 8166K21 Switch. It will come out with a little persuasion. Note how it is wired, and attach the wires the same to the new switch. Then just press the new switch back in.

Question: Part Identification

1142552

I don't know if I have a type 1 or 2 planer. My problem is that a piece of wood I was planing flew up inside the machine and broke a piece that looks like it is pot metal and covered the cutter assembly. I cannot ID it from any of the diagrams and wonder if anyone can do so. Thanks'-

Hello 1142552,

I can't see a piece that you are describing either. I am wondering if it broke some on the bottom side of the 903311 head. Take a look and see if anything on the underside of it has broken off.

Good luck,

Question: President

1085968

I have a 12" model 22-560. The brushes needed replacement because of normal wear and tear. However when I replaced them with new carbon brushes the motor sparked and burned and within minutes worn them completely down and now I have to order new ones. It would seem that there should be some part in the motor that would set a clearance or gap for the brushes so they would not just ride on the armature and burn. What should I do ? There is nothing in the manual about setting any gap.
WJA
Reply: President

WJA

Hello 1085968,

There should be no gap at all between the brush and the armature. I would check the commutator bars on the armature where the brushes seat. And make sure there is any damaged, burnt or raised bars. Which would mean that your armature is shot and you may need a new one. Also check the brush holder tubes and make sure there isn't any debris from stopping the brushes from making full contact with the armature.

Good luck,
-WJA

Question: Delta Planer 22-560 Height Adjus...

joseph bogaard

my planer, over the course of a job recently, slowly ceased to raise and lower the blade height. it became gradually more difficult, until I simply could not move it. Actually, it rises OK, but then won't lower. I have cleaned the sawdust out oil the two big vertical elevation screws (parts 36 and 37 above) and the accompanying guides, but nothing seems to help.

Seems like i need to get in to the housing itself where the cutter unit rides on the screws to inspect, clean out, etc.

any suggestions much appreciated!!!

Question: Pulley Replacment

Jack

The cutterhead pulley was run loose and damaged the shaft and the pulley. I bought a new pulley and key. I cleaned up the shaft and patched the damaged keyway with JBweld. I put it all back together and it works fine now.
What replacement signs should I look for when inspecting the brushes on my Delta TP305 Planer?

Question: Outfeed Roller Problem

Mike

When running stock through the planer, the stock starts and stops with a clunking noise. I noticed the outfeed roller hops up and down during operation. I'm going to take it apart to find the problem, but thought I would ask if anyone else has had the same problem. Could use a heads up. Thanks.

There is a key in the key-way. Gently pry the pulley away from the planer body and tap the key toward the planer. The key-way is not slotted all the way through.

Lay the planer on either the infeed or outfeed side and on the bottom their is a plastic cover over the chain. The cover is retained by 2 Phillips screws. Remove the cover and clean the chips out the the chain rollers. Replace the cover and it should work as good as new.
Bob
Question: Drive Belt

Bob

My drive belt & pulley came off of my 22-560 planer. How do I go about replacing the belt?
Richard
Question: Bearing Enclosed?

Richard

My cutterhead pulley somehow sheared the small metallic 'key' that holds it aligned to the shaft. As I removed the pulley I was surprised to find that the bearing was exposed. When I looked at the parts list/description and photo of a new bearing, it saw that it appeared to be enclosed.
Is it possible that my model 22-560's bearing was originally not enclosed, or did I destroy some part of the bearing when the pulley key disintegrated.
I want to make sure I order the right stuff to get this thing back in action.
I have a 22-560 and need to order parts. I see that there are Type 1 and Type 2 machines. Are the parts the same? Or do I need to differentiate my machine to get the right parts?

Question: Planer Blades

hendry

At what angle are the blades ground?
Mark
Reply: Planer Blades

Mark

Hi Hendry,

Planer knives are typically ground between 30 and 35 degrees. I am not sure if you will be able to grind the knives on your Delta 22-560 planer. After grinding the knives will be narrower. If I remember correctly the height of the knife is set by tabs on the cutterhead that fit into grooves on the knife. There is no way to raise or lower the knife on the cutterhead to compensate for the now narrower knives.

I hope this helps!

I think I sharpened mine to 45 degrees. If you do not cut much off they are usable. When trying to measure the angle I found about 38 but I came upon the 45 when comparing to new blades.

Question: Brushes Wearing Out

ricky palmer

What could be the problem with the motor to cause the brushes to wear out within 3 hours of use on my 12 1/2" delta portable planer model 22-560?
Mark
Reply: Brushes Wearing Out

Mark

Hi Ricky,

It is likely a problem with the armature. If the brush wires are discolored and burnt and there is a lot of arcing around the commutator then the armature is shorting out.
This type of damage is usually caused by either running the tool with an extension that is too small of gauge or by putting more load on the motor than it can handle. This heats up the armature until the epoxy insulation melts and then the armature shorts out.

If the brush is cracked and chipped then I would suspect that one or more of the bars on the commutator has been damaged. This damage is again caused by heat in the armature.

To repair you will need to open up the motor and remove the armature. You will also want to inspect the field. The field can be damaged when the motor is overloaded. Look for signs of heat damage. You can check the field with an ohm meter. Take an impedance reading from both sides of the field. The value read isn't important. What is important is that both sides measure the same amount of impedance. If not the field is bad. Inspect the plastic parts around the field and armature for any signs of melting or damage. It is not uncommon for housings to melt when the motor overheats.

Unfortunately the armature for this tool has been discontinued and is no longer available. If the armature and field are damaged it would likely be more cost effective to replace the planer.

Good luck with your repair!

-Mark

Mr. Midds
Question: Infeed Roller Replacement

Mr. Midds

I need to replace the infeed roller on my Delta 22-560 planer. How hard is that to do?
Mark
Reply: Infeed Roller Replacement

Mark

Hi Mr. Midds,

Replacing the infeed roller shouldn't be too difficult. You will start by opening the side cover on the planer and removing the sprockets and drive chains. Now you can remove the two mounting plates, item #190 on the parts diagram. With the mounting plates removed you will be able to drop the feed roller from the cutterhead body. It is not a bad idea to also replace the feed roller bushings when you replace the roller.

The infeed roller is part #1342152 and the bushings are part #1343875. Both are available from http://ereplacementparts.com.

I hope this helps with your repair!

Question: Planer Delta 22-560 Benchtop

Frankieb12

Iím having a sporadic problem with my planer in that it randomly stops feeding during a run. This results in a groove being cut into the work piece which must be pulled to get things going again. Several boards will run through fine and then it happens. It occurs with all types of wood. Any ideas as to whatís causing this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Frank,
First and foremost check your knives..if they haven't been changed or sharpened in a while it will cause some feed problems..[most knives are reversible] second..check the bearing blocks located on each end of the in feed and out feed rollers for wear..third..review your owners manual for any adjustments on the tables..[also warped or grooved boards can be a nuisance]:o

Two things that may be wrong is the bearing blocks on the in feed roller have ovaled or worn down so the roller drops a little and doesn't feed the wood...[the out feed roller is really just a guide or holder and doesn't really feed or pull..] also the knives have become so dull they are not cutting as efficiently..some of these knives are reversible and can simply be turned over and you have new knives! ...be sure and check your owners manual for troubleshooting and tips..:) if your bearing blocks or block is worn..the part # is 1343875 avail at ereplacementparts.com along with anything else you would need..!
Hope this helps..

Hi 049woody
I'm having a similar problem in that the work piece stops feeding during the run. This causes a groove in the wood. I have to pull the piece to get it moving again. I'd like to ask how you resolved your problem

Thanks
Frank

whenever my planer won't feed it is usually because I haven't flattened one side on the jointer properly...one side needs to be pretty well flat in order for the material to feed....Also if you are getting ridges or lines caused by a nicked blade, loosen one knife and move it over about 1/8 th of an inch...This will get you by until the next blade changeout..

Hey Toolman,
There is a screw located on the belt side of the tool that loosens the motor so you can change the belt..i believe it is item # 144 and #145 [bracket] you will see that you will be able to adjust the tension as it slides in the bracket..
hope this is helpful..

Hey Warren,
Sorry for the late response,
it looks like your only option is to have the motor link removed the complete motor is no longer available..[however,just the field is..!] ..you have to send in the armature and field to be rewound.. probably around $150.00
Hope this helps?!
