This is an authentic replacement part manufactured for use with Skil reciprocating saws. Brushes are considered wear items because they wear against the rotating armature while the saw is in use. Worn brushes can cause the saw's motor to spark, and can eventually overrun the motor. Replacing worn brushes is part of normal maintenance and is a relatively simple repair.
