    Correct Cable, reasonable price
Great place to order parts. Pricing is fair and shipping is reasonable given the challenges our country is facing at this time.

Snapper 21 series cable clutch was frayed and about to break

The old cable is easy to replace. I slid the old cable out from the clutch pedal(easy) and fed it through to the back. I had to unscrew the brake cable which is connected to the clutch cable under the drivers seat. The back end of the cable also slides out through a groove (similar to the front end) on a plate near the clutch. so, other than removing and replacing the brake cable there was no need for tools. I did stand the mower up on its back end to do this repair. putting the new cable in was a snap. thus, Snapper.

Disconnect the cable from the foot pedal, disconnect the cable from the rear end by using a screw driver to push the clutch in from access hole in rear of tractor. Disconnect by hand them pull out cable from pedal side. Run new cable from mid access hole to front then to rear. Attach to foot pedal then to clutch. You also have to disconnect at the mid point the lead connector that allows the brake cable to engage. Then reconnect after cable is installed. Takes less then 30 minutes total.

The cable fit fine. Unfortunately, I ran the cable wrong on the bottom (when the mower was on it's back). Then, I had to disconnect it at the top in order to reroute the cable. It should have gone quickly, however, I made it a little more difficult.

Broken cable from brake/clutch pedal in front to clutch and brakes in rear of rider-mower

    William - July 25, 2021
    Tool Type

    Lawn Tractor

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

    Pliers, Socket set, Wrench Set

After ten years of use, the cable broke at the foot pedal due to bending whenever the foot pedal was pressed down to stop the Snapper rider-mower. The five parts purchased together form part of a single system, however it would have been possible to purchase only the "Cable, Clutch" while salvaging and re-using the brake cable and other parts. After studying how the original clutch cable and brake cable were attached, it was not difficult to connect the replacement cables properly. I needed a second pair of hands to keep the front end of the cable from slipping down into and becoming lost in the connecting tube while I connected everything at the rear of the mower. Otherwise, this was a one-person job.
