Question: Ed

Hi, I have a Bolens BL150 Gas Trimmer. Runs great horizontally, but sputters and dies when turned vertically to edge.
What could be the problem?

Try replacing the fuel lines and fuel filter.

If you are going to use the machine vertically, be sure it is FULL of fuel, as your available fuel supply DROPS when the machine is turned vertically and you may be losing your fuel draw because of that. The fuel filter and fuel line may still be in the dry part of the tank after the vertical tilt. primerbulb makes a good point however as an inspection of your entire fuel system is always a good idea; replace as needed.

Thank you for your quick response. I will definitely try replacing fuel lines and filter. I appreciate your knowledge.
I have a similar problem to dtucks, I installed this part on a Bolens BL 150 trimmer (manf 1/2008) hoping to correct a what I thought was a failure of the pulley to engage the flywheel in order to turn the engine to start. the problem is when I get the whole assembly back together the pulley fails to engage the toggles on the flywheel and thus the engine does not turn over. I just got the part and have only attempted to start a few times and already notice premature wear on the flywheel. The toggles on the flywheel just do not seem to extend far enough to catch the pulley. Any ideas

Question: Bolens BL150 Trimmer Quit

1124976

I've had a Bolens BL150 for 5 years and it was always dependable. This morning it started normally and then stopped running after about 15 minutes of use. The engine sputtered and then died. I was able to start it again but it only lasted a few seconds. I tried many times to start it but it wouldn't start.

I installed a new spark plug and it started but as before for only a few seconds.

What should I check?

Hello 1124976,

It sounds like you may have a problem with the carburetor. We have prepared an article and video on diagnosing 2 cycle engines.
Here is the link to it.

I have a Bolins model BL150 31cc trimmer. The tip of my filter broke off inside the gas tank and I reassembled it without it. I am getting to much gas and the motor is choaking out. I thought it might be the needle & seat in the carb. Without this filter will the motor get to much gas/choak out? It looks to be a real pain getting the filter in that hole as it sits in the left corner of the tank. Thanks for any help.

How do I replace the recoil pulley and spring?
I just received a replacement Recoil Pulley Assembly. After installation, I tried to start the weedeater by pulling the rope. It pulled, but did not recoil. I will disassemble it again, but when I put it back together, what do I need to do in order to ensure that the rope will recoil?

I have the same problem. There must be a way to tension the spring so it re-coils. I thought about this last night and the only way I can see tension the spring to retract the cord is to turn the weed eater head? It's all about tensioning that spring but I'm not seeing it?

Question: How Do I Remove Inner Spool

How do I remove inner spool?
Mark
Reply: How Do I Remove Inner Spool

Mark

Hi Robert,

The spool is held on by the plastic knob on the bottom of the trimmer head. The knob unscrews counterclockwise. If you rotate the knob and it spins but doesn't screw then it has likely broken and will need to be replaced. The plastic knob surrounds a steel bolt. Sometimes the inner part of the knob will strip and just spin without turning the bolt. To remove it you will need to break or cut the plastic knob away from the bolt. The bolt can then be removed with a wrench or pliers. The Bump Head Knob Assembly is part #791-153066B and is available from http://ereplacementparts.com.

I hope this helps with your repair!

i have a bl410 31cc 2-cycle tiller. I replaced fuel filter kit (line, filter w/seal washer) and added new line for pump bulb. just be careful not to enlarge the exsisting holes. pull the filter line thru the cap opening until the filter seats at bottom of tank. you should be sealed!

I have used this model BL150 for just a short period of time. In the beginning it ran fine (first 10 times used). Slowly thereafter, it began to give me issues starting and staying running. I have cleaned everything, replaced fuel and spark plug. Next step is to soak the carb in Gunk carb cleaner in hopes that will fix the problem. It will start but will die five seconds later. I can keep it idling by pressing the priming bulb LOL. Works great when it runs but that's the problem; it doesn't run now after maybe 20 uses.

I had a similar problem with my Ryobi string trimmer. My problem was water in the fuel, at first. I then had to replace the fuel lines and filter. It ran fine for a short period, then I had to replace the plug, overhaul the carb with a kit, and now I need a coil module. When it rains it pours! Otherwise, a good trimmer. I have had it about 6 or 7 years with regular use.

My mowers is 2 years old and seldom used because we travel a lot and have lawn service. It will not start because plastic piece which engages with starting pull rope is gouged out and will not spin the engine.
