Question: Manual

WJA

Hello lymanhogue,

Unfortunately the manufacture has discontinued the 769-03531 owners manual for your model number. You might try contacting the manufacture @ 800-269-6215 just to see if they might have anything on it. They might have a manual for a model that is close to the specs of your trimmer with just a few differences.

Good luck,
-WJA

Thanks for the video, but it deals with the older starter assy which i am familiar with. My problem is the pn:753-04823 which when i install it, it will not rewind. There is tension when pulled but not enough to retract the rope. Could you please take a look at that part number and tell me how to install it. The part includes the pulley spring and rope.
Thank you....Dan

The part you're describing sounds like the compression relief valve..with the choke in the open position the cable pulls the spring metal clip back, allowing the relief valve to close...with choke in close position the cable releases the clip opening the valve for easier starting..hope this helps

Question: Recoil Starter

Initially when I pulled the rope the gears would not engage to start the engine. Then the rope pulled out and not retract. What is the corrective action and what parts would I need? Is there something I can do or is the trimmer shot?

Andy
Reply: Recoil Starter

Andy

You probably need parts A25 and A26. Take the trimmer apart, see if any of the teeth are damaged on part A25. Check the coil spring (part A26) and see if it is damaged. If it isn't, just reuse it. Taking everything apart isn't difficult, just make sure you remember how everything fits back together.

I have the same problem, after 14 months (12 month warranty) and not that much use. Not sure if it's the flywheel assembly or recoil pulley assembly I'd need to replace, but it doesn't look trivial to disassemble, so I'm not sure it's worth it.
Tad
Reply: Fly Wheel

Tad

The recoil pulley assembly has a plastic gear that engages metal prongs on the flywheel to turn the engine when starting. After so many starts that plastic gear rounds out and won't engage and needs replacing. Cheap engineering. So, the recoil pulley assembly has to be replaced.

Question: Wont Stay Cranked

anatoly

What would cause this unit not to stay running? Spark plug was cleaned and gapped. I followed the start up procedure and it will run for about 30 sec. then die and not even fire even after your arms give out. I feel it's a fuel starvation problem but do not want to tear it all down if it is something minor. Any suggestions?
I am unable to start my BL100 gas trimmer......Today I depressed the priming bulb 10x as suggested however it was slow going as the bulb filled very slowly (unusually so). Motor turned over for a few short bursts then nothing. The bulb is now dry and partially depressed. I confirmed good flow between: tank/bulb, pick-up filter/carb., return from carb to tank. I pulled the carb and did not see any obvious blockage......Any an all thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

you have to make sure its a fuel problem first;if you put your fingers over the air intake & pull the the starter rope you should get fuel on your fingers;you have to cover the air intake completely;or you can squirt some starter fluid into the air intake but this is not recommended because the engine is lubricated by the oil in the fuel mixture;a squirt bottle with the fuel mixture could be used;if the engine starts & dies then it is definitely a fuel problem;the exhaust ports or spark arrestor screen could be plugged causing the engine not to breathe;usually if it is a fuel problem then the fuel filter is plugged & will not let the fuel to be picked up;just some ideas

I have the same problem. The local professionals are telling me that Ethanol has corroded the engine and for 95 bucks they can fix it but I am not signing off on that one. On mine, I think the blockage is inside the carburator. The fuel flow is good from the tank through the filter and supply fuel line. According to the video, the primer bulb pulls the fuel from the carburator. Be sure to watch the video on the primer bulb. Your problem may be attributed to an inadvertant reversal of the fuel lines. Could be that the Ethanol corroded the carb fuel intake and return.

Question: Bolens BL100 Trimmer

I recently purchased a new flexible drive shaft for my trimmer and need to remove the rotor unit from the bottom of the drive shaft housing. How is the rotor unit held in place? I have taken off the outer reel but need to remove the rotor in order to attach the new drive shaft.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Any Bolen's people out there?

Thank you.

Hi johnpaul,

To remove the trimmer head first remove the cap the spool and the spool spring. Now you have the housing left. It is held in place by a special cup shaped fastener. The only way to remove it is to grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it off. You destroy it in the process and it will need to be replaced. It is only sold with the trimmer head housing which is part #753-04284.

The better way to replace the drive shaft is from the top of the trimmer. Loosen the clamp screws that attach the motor to the shaft housing. You will likely need to disconnect the ignition wires and the throttle cable. A couple pair of needle nose pliers make that task easy. Now the head will slide right off of the shaft. The drive cable can be pulled from the housing and the new one insert back in its place. Make sure that the new cable engages into the trimmerhead and to the head unit as you reassemble.

This should have you up and running again!

Thank you for your fast response.

However there is still a piece of drive shaft stuck inside the housing attached to the rotor at the bottom of the shaft housing. I have the reel and holding washer off, but I need to get the rotor itself out of the housing in order to remove the remaining piece of flex shaft still attached to the rotor.

Thanks again for any help.
