Hello MarWro,

You will need to get the series number and type number off the Briggs and Stratton engine. You will then be able to look at the parts diagram and hopefully determine what part is not letting fuel get to the carburetor. If you would like to post that information we may be able to help you.

can i order a complete deck or is the deck shown complete

Hello rcdavis28,

It looks as if the part number, 983-04166A-0637 is just the mower deck shell. All the other parts that you would need would have to be ordered individually.

Question: WON'T START

RMCLEOD1948

I HAVE A BOLENS 13AM762F765 (2006) LAWN TRACTOR. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO START THE MOWER WITHOUT JUMPING IT OFF WITH MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP & THEY SAID ALL I NEEDED WAS A BATTERY. I PURCHASED THE BATTERY FROM THEM (INSTALLED), GOT HOME, AND STILL IT WILL NOT CRANK WITHOUT JUMPING IT OFF. WHEN I DO JUMP IT OFF, IT RUNS LIKE A CHAMP. ALSO, CAN YOU SUPPLY ME A OWNERS MANUAL FOR THE MOWER?

Hi byrdman33,

Nothing worse than having the mower die in the middle of the yard. You will want to start by attempting to diagnose whether the problem is with the fuel system or the electrical system.

I would start with the fuel system. Try spraying a little starter fluid into the carb. If the engines fires, runs for a few seconds and then dies you will know that the problem is with the fuel delivery system, most likely the carburetor. If it still won't run then I would look at the electrical system next.

The most common electrical system failures on a lawn tractor are the safety switches. You will need to go through the mower and isolate each switch until you find the bad one.

Let us know how it goes and feel free to ask for more help if you run into a problem.

I hope this helps,

Question: CHecking Ignition

Sonny

Turning the key to start will not crank the starter. The fuse, safety inter-locks, etc are all ok. I can hot wire the starter, from mower battery, key in run position, and engine will turn over. Starter not the problem..Before I replace the ignition switch, how can I check it to be sure it is bad? When I disconnect the plug in at the back of the ignition switch, I have one red lead that reads 12 volts so current is getting to the switch..

Thanks for any help anyone can give me on this..

Question: Steering Cam

My steering gear has stripped where the steering shaft gear and the gear assembly meet. Which parts do I need, the steering gear assembly and shaft or does the assembly include the other gear that is on the shaft?
Bill
Question: Transmision

Bill

The reverse works fine in all gears but when you go forward it keeps jumping out of gear. My tractor is only 3yrs old, any help out there?
jim
Reply: Transmision

jim

Usually this is caused by the forward bevel gear being worn. Since we run in forward 99% of the time, the forward bevel gear wears much faster than the reverse. Low oil levels add to the problem, so do mowing in too high a gear and pulling heavy loads. It could be worn linkage, but this usually isn't the problem.

Ed Bargert

Jumper from your cars battery to main post on starter. Use the black wire of jumper to ground on the frame. Turn Key on and see if the motor starter will crank. If the starter doesn't crank, it's the starter.

I know that the battery is two years old, so this leads me to believe that I might possibly have a bad starter, but I did jump start the tractor with my auto. It started up with no problem, whats the solution?
John B

Because the mower sits up for long periods of time, the battery tends to discharge. However if you charge it there is no problem starting it.

Lower your deck to the lowest position and you can change your belt that way.

Question: Blades Won

Amber

My blades won't engage. I have replaced the belt, but I still can't get the blades to engage. What else would keep them from engaging?
joe
Reply: Blades Won

joe

Your engagement lever feeds through a cable tension to a spring that mounts in the middle of the deck rear shroud. If that is not broken , the arm it connects to needs cleaning (it rusts in place) around the bushing. The right blade brake actuator does rot stuck to the deck. Check the spring actuator for the idler pulley first( easier), if that's OK then clean and lube the arm that supports the idler and the left blade brake. Good luck

More than likely you're sitting on the problem, disconnect the seat safety switch and clamp the button in on the switch, and it should run when letting out on clutch/brake, remember the safety that goes with the switch.

Richard Fetty

Bolens Model # 13AM762F765, Lawn Mower
The control lever, will not adjust speed of the
tractor. One minute it's going full speed, set on 6 and
without touching it, the speed will slow down. Is it the
speed control lever or something in the Rear end? I
sure need some help........Thanks....Richard

Check the variable pulley, it has a tendency to stick up and will loosen up the main drive belt (bad bearings). If the assembly is sticking, the replacement is around 45 bucks. Sometimes you can get by, by lubricating the shaft where the sheave rides on it.It will come back and you will need to do it again.

I got this tractor from my dad when he passed away. So the first time i ride this it runs good, but when i drove i hit the brake and it's not strong enough to hold when go down decline. When I go incline there's no power to go up. Also when I set the parking brake in shift n still move so i have to put in forward gear no move so what do to fix it?

Reply: Skeeter@tmail.com

Ed Bargert

Adjust the brake cable. You can view all of the brake system by taking off the Right rear wheel. It has a cable going to the disc brake that may have some adjustment still left in it. If not it will need new disc pads. Easy to replace if you take your time and look at it.
Sonny

Your operators manual tells exactly how to adjust and gap your brake. Also, brake pads could be worn..If you do have a operators manual, you can download one for free at C:\Favorites\Riding Mowers\Bolens Mower\769-02189a[1] Operator's Manual.pdf

This manual is almost a must have to take care of your mower..

You need a new needle and seat for your carb.
As with all products with small engines, you will have your normal problems with the Bolens riding mower..For the cost, it is a good deal..You must realize that you only get what you pay for, this is not a John Deere..I had to purchase a John Deere after my Bolens transmission started giving problems..I found out that the Bolens is not intended to be used if you have a hills to mow, trans. not strong enough to last on the down-hill runs. For small, flat lawns, less than 1 acre. I do not like the idea of 3 belts and that you cannot adjust them as they wear but must buy new ones, not cheap. If you plan on using the mower a lot, I would recommend you save your pennies until you can buy a John Deere or compatible brand, will save you money in the long run..Repair shops are expensive for the Bolens. They wanted over $400.00 to just do that little transmission, almost half the cost of a new mower..Did the tranny myself, only had to replace some spacer washers that had worn....Also have had electrical problems...
