The motor on my weed wacker shorted out.A new one costs $47.30....A new weed wacker costs $39.99......Which should I buy?
Sometimes in the lawn and garden and power tool industry. The cost of replacing certain parts of the unit will cost a little under or more of the cost of a new unit. In this case I would think the best thing for you to do is to treat yourself to a new trimmer.
Question: Line Feed
when I start the trimmer, the line just shoots out. It seemed to be a small plastic part inside that had something to do with it and I found it broken off. Would love to repair it as it is perfect for me to use as I am 78 yrs old, and it is light and easy. Would appreciate any help you can give me.

Lever above, is what's missing.
Hard to push in, but not that hard.
Question: Weed Wacker
My cover for the string area broke off one of the flanges/tab. Now I can't get the string locked in when I put the replacement cover on. As soon as I start to use the weed whacker, the cover flies off again and the cover flanges/tab breaks off. How do I eliminate this problem so I don't have to keep replacing the cover? Not very happy this cover is very cheap and does not hold up to the power of my weed whacker.
Why won't the line feed on my auto-feed trimmer?
The reason this happened to me, is solved by replacing part no. 598437-00. The lever had a little brass bushing that wore down and fell off. Swapping this part and using a factory wound spool make all the difference.
I'm guessing this is the same problem with mine, however it's not due to brass bushing, which is still on there. There are three little plastic flanges on the end of the post of this part that snap into the hole and (maybe?) are supposed to keep it tight and flat. The lever on mine is flopping around which I think has caused it to wear into the bottom of the lever surface, causing even more flopping. It apparently has to be tight and lay flat. It's just typical disposable consumer engineering, which I don't appreciate. Listening Black and Decker? Spend a few more cents and make the moving parts dependable. We have more than enough landfill.
