How to Test a Small Engine for Spark
If your small engine isn't starting, you'll need to diagnose many issues including the spark plug. This video walks you through the steps of how to test for a spark using a spark tester.
Copper braid contact to one of the brushes on the motor broke.
Removed mower cover (4 screws). Removed the brush caps (screws). Removed the 2 brushes from their insert-spring assemblies. Checked brushes and found a brush with broken contact to its copper braid. Replaced with new brush in the brush insert, replaced the other brush, fastened brush covers, fastened mower cover.
I purchased the FAN Part #24125-00/ 13726159 A433 tried to install the fan however as indicated in the manual, the reverse side --the side that the blade goes on top of, is too thick so that once the spacer and the lug nut are attached on top of the blade you can not tighten the lug nut so the blade does not stay on during operation.
My B&D MM875 electric mower won't run. The blade is not bend or binding. I removed the cover to expose the motor, and I can see the motor spark when I pull the starter handle. The mower makes a brief noise like it wants to run and then nothing. I removed the top of the motor housing and the brushes do look a bit worn. All connections seem to be in order.
!Bad brushes perhaps? Other thoughts? The motor looks okay and its not very old and hasn't been used all that much.
If the brushes look good and the motor and connections all seem to be okay, use a multimeter and check the switch. You might have a short or an open in it. Here is a link to the part number for the switch, B&D MM875 switch.
