Question: Motor Shaft

Wayne Schlueter

I have a DeWalt radial arm saw (RAS) model 7749 and can not tighten the arbor nut securely. As I hold the motor shaft with the socket wrench and rotate the nut the motor shaft slides until the nut snugs up against the end of the thread. But then the motor shaft will not turn freely and the end the nut is on is lodged against the blade guard. I know this is very dangerous and I am not planning to use the saw until this is fixed or replaced. What can I do? Would a new motor stator resolve the issue? I am thinking that the press fit of the shaft in the stator has been compromised causing the problem. I am also considering contacting a company that rebuilds RAS. Thank you for your input.

Where can I get a replacement for my Dewalt radial arm saw motor, model # 7749 with a 2.5 hp motor.

Hi punchdo,

Dewalt is actually owned by Black and Decker, so I think these parts diagrams might help you:

Black and Decker 7749 Parts List and Diagram - Type 2 : eReplacementParts.com

Black and Decker 7749 Parts List and Diagram - Type 1 : eReplacementParts.com

One is for a 7749 Type 1, and one is for a 7749 Type 2. Some of the parts are similar between the two, but some aren't, so it's good to know what type you have.
Also, since it's an older tool, not all parts are available for it anymore.

Does that help you find what you're looking for?
Good luck and let us know how things go!

The stator or rotor or the motor itself are no longer available through Black & Decker or Dewalt. Unless I can find a third party vendor or a used inventory I may be out of luck. Please help if you can.

I just posted a used motor for a DeWalt 7749 Radial Arm Saw. I believe that it was used very little as the table was never set up correctly... the table supports were not parallel... no MDF table was mounted. Looks like a tool that was not even put together... but kept in a garage for 15-20 years. The motor was the only part that I bothered to salvage... the rest was pretty much rusted up... column was frozen up... real shame.

Auction starts tonight.
