The carafe lid had somehow become clogged making coffee spill over instead of going into the carafe when it was brewing.
Threw old lid away - put new one on

Removed old lid.
Replaced with new lid.
Despite the coffee maker being about 10 years old, the replacement lid fit perfectly and the problem was solved in around 3 seconds. Definitely more cost effective than purchasing a new Cuisinart coffeemaker.
