Product Information
Description:
This package contains one set with two pulleys. It is a sealed bearing for tension pulley (for low friction) and ceramic bushing for the guide pulley (for durability). The pulley wheels move the chain across the cassette, allowing you to change the gears and keep the chain tensioned. Pulleys are in constant rotation and are prone to dirt and grime build up, and general wear and tear. The teeth on the pulley can start to appear worn or sharp and will need to be replaced. Worn pulleys can cause the chain to not engage like it should. If you suspect the pulleys are worn, remove the back wheels and turn the wheels manually. If the wheel has a lot of resistance, the pulleys should be replaced.
When performing the installation, take note of the arrows located on one side of the pulley, showing the chain direction. The side with the arrows should face away from the rear wheel. When driving forward the arrows should point in the same direction that the chain is turning. It is important to make a distinction between the tension pulley and guide, you'll notice that the tension pulley doesn't move back and forth, however the guide pulley will move side to side by pushing it with your two fingers.
To replace the pulley wheels, you will need to remove the rear wheel and change them separately. Use an allen key to remove the guide pulley first. Remove the tension pulley using the same process. Clean up the cage with a rag. Now place it inside the cage. Use your bolt to place it on, make note of any torque recommendations. Now reassemble your rear wheel. Once installed, make sure that the pulleys spin freely.
